00:00:02Just to give you a quick update as well.
00:00:06Airports call ahead if you're flying out of any of them today, LaGUARDIA, KENNEDY OR NEWARK.
00:00:12Both newark and kennedy plan to reopen this morning.
00:00:15So I could call if you're planning on traveling in and out of new york today.
00:00:19, for you folks working for any federal agencies there today, you need to know that those will be open but under a two-hour delayed arrival this morning.
00:00:28People will have the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework today.
00:00:33So that san option.
00:00:34Sounds like a pretty good one.
00:00:35Again, a two-hour delay.
00:00:37And also we have about 400,000 households without power in that area as well.
00:00:44>> So let's get you updated, snow emergencies along the east coast this morning.
00:00:50Here's a look at the weather map right now.
00:00:53It is coming down in some areas they're expecting over a foot of snow in new york and boston.
00:01:00Since december 15th it ha snowed eight times in the new york city area.
00:01:05The city has seen 36 inches so far.
00:01:09Which is 15 inches which i believe rob said they're breaking january records for snow totals.
00:01:14>> And if you folks are traveling, having a loved one today, keep a close eye.
00:01:24Check the faa went site.
00:01:25The times are moving around.
00:01:27NEWARK, LaGUARDIA, JFK, THEY'RE All going to have delays.
00:01:30Some of them closed right now.
00:01:32Again, they're scheduled to reopen for the most part this morning.
00:01:35Jfk and newark at least.
00:01:37LaGUARDIA IS REPORTING THAT THEY Are open and dealing with 15-minute delays.
00:01:41Don't know how true that is.
00:01:43But we know there are at least a thousand flights canceled so far.
00:01:49You really need to check online with anything having to do with travel in and out of the northeast.
00:01:54>> All of the snow crushing the snow removal budgets on the east coast as well.
00:01:58Here in new york city, they've spent the entire thing already.
00:02:01We're talking about just the end of january.
00:02:03$38 Million.
00:02:04That's how much it costs.
00:02:06I believe mayor bloomberg was talking about using more than 200,000 pounds of rock salt already and counting.
00:02:12Just north in boston, they've already reportedly burned through 66% of their $16 million snow removal budget.
00:02:19>>> I want to turn to right now, the new house speaker john boehner says he wants to change things.
00:02:25He wants to change the way congress is run.
00:02:29He's revealing some of his plans to our kathleen parker, take a listen.
00:02:35>> You have an idea what the house needs to be.
00:02:37I know you wanted to restore honor to the house as you see it.
00:02:41Tell us about that.
00:02:42>> Well, the congress is broken.
00:02:44And I think most americans realize that congress is broken.
00:02:47We need to open up the house.
00:02:48We need to let all members from both parties participate in the debate, offer their ideas, represent their constituents and let the house work its will.
00:02:59The house should not be coerced to produce legislation that fits my needs or to fit anyone else's needs.
00:03:10And I do believe that if we open up the house it will drive more power back to the committees where members are going to have to begin to work together again.
00:03:18And I think the result of this is we'll have better legislation.
00:03:22We'll have more bipartisan legislation, and we will begin to melt the scar tissue that is built up between the two political parties.
00:03:29>> Well, congressman dennis kucinich of ohio is, meantime, suing a congressional cafeteria.
00:03:37The ohio congressman said he bought a sandwich three years ago, while eating it bit into a an olive pit.
00:03:45He's suing three companies for $145,000.
00:03:48According to the lawsuit, kucinich sustained multiple injuries requiring multiple surgical and dental procedures and has sustained other damage as well, including pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment.
00:04:03>>> Take a look at this surveillance video.
00:04:06See if you can figure out what's happening in in it.
00:04:09It's grainy there.
00:04:12Can you clearly see people.
00:04:14What exactly are they doing?
00:04:20They're using a catapult to shoot marijuana across the border.
00:04:23These are drug smugglers caught on tape.

00:04:28This is a remote surveillance system.
00:04:33But 45,000 pounds of marijuana were seized and the suspect, i do believe, were taken into custody.

00:04:57She was safely captured yesterday.
00:04:59They used a pair olings as bait.
00:05:04The hawk was taken to a rehabilitation center in virginia.
00:05:08>>> And take a look at this creature as well.

00:09:09>>> good morning, welcome back to this "american morning" at 39 minutes past the hour.
00:09:14Officials in egypt right now say at least 1,000 people have been arrested this week in anti-government protests are demanding an end to the president, his 30-year reign there.
00:09:25>> Cnn's zain verjee has details on that and other international stories this morning, live in london, hi there, zain.
00:09:33>> Hey, guys.
00:09:34>>> You know, we have not seen this kind of public rage in egypt in 30 years that president hosni mubarak has been ruling the place.
00:09:44The situation there is very tense.
00:09:46People are bracing for a third day of protests.
00:09:49Now, police have cracked down pretty hard on protesters out on the street.
00:09:54Four people have died.
00:09:56Protesters are coming back, not backing down.
00:09:59They basically want president mubarak to go.
00:10:02They're mad about things like unemployment, lack of freedoms that they say they don't have, increase in the cost of living in the country and corruption there.
00:10:10Analysts that I've spoken to today say what we've got to do is wait and see what happens in the next 48 hours, whether these protests are going to spread.
00:10:19, kiran, friday and saturday is the weekend in the arab world.
00:10:22Let's see what happens.
00:10:24It could get ugly.
00:10:26>> Zain, are they really attributing what is happening in egypt right now to what is happening in nearby tunisia?
00:10:33>> Yes, in part, they are.
00:10:35They think that what happened in tunisia has really spurred people on and this situation has moved far swifter than anyone ever thought that would be the case.
00:10:43But you know what, the issues are the same.
00:10:46People have been frustrated with presubarak's rule.
00:10:56About 40% live below the poverty line.
00:10:57When you look at the pictures of the people on the streets, it's important that you can see, it's a secular group there.
00:11:04You've got muslims.
00:11:05You've got christians.
00:11:07You've got rich people.
00:11:09You've got business people, you've got factory workers.
00:11:12So it's galvanized so many people.
00:11:15And they're using social media to get out on the streets, faik and twitter.
00:11:20To twitter has been saying they've been totally blocked and facebook has limited access.
00:11:25The government is denying it but that's playing a key role.
00:11:30>> That's a tough thing for the united states, egypt considered an ally, but the white house is sort of walking a fine line because they can't ignore the will of the people as well.
00:11:40What's going on with that, in terms of diplomatically?
00:11:44>> You know, on the one hands is supporting the freedom in the arab world, but on the other world, it's been a long ally of the united states, egypt has been a friend of israel, being the first arab country to recognize the jewish state.
00:12:00So I think they're looking on with this situation with nerves.
00:12:05The secretary of state hillary clinton has said that there should be reforms that support the legitimate needs and requirements of the people.
00:12:12I think one thing, just to note that was interesting at the state department yesterday, the spokesman was asked, do you support hosni mubarak?
00:12:20And the answer was, we support our ally, egypt.
00:12:24>> All right.

00:12:55The manager at the grocery store put a cover on it using what's called a family shield.
00:13:03And customers complained about that, wait a minute, we can see scantily-clad women in bikinis and we can't see a man and a baby?
00:13:14>> If you are traveling or you know anybody traveling, it's going to be causing a mess up and down the east coast today.
00:13:21Another powerful storm, rob marciano is joining us right after the break.
00:13:25>>> And the mystery in the black and white on biscayne bay.

00:31:31He's in the extreme weather center.
00:31:33Is this stuff just about done, rob in getting out of here.
00:31:36>> It's trying to wind down.
00:31:38It has done that in new york city.
00:31:40It's done that in points farther to the east.
00:31:42A winter storm warning still up for all of rhode island, eastern massachusetts, kleined youing boston, back to the cape.
00:31:498 To 14 inches expected in these area for total snow accumulations.
00:31:53That's about what we've seen some some of the other large cities.
00:31:57Another wide range of real estate and highly pop lated area crushed by snow.
00:32:03You can see the back edge of this thing is already out towards, say, east hampton and gratin, connecticut.
00:32:11It's moving out quickly.
00:32:13There is a little snow behind this but not a tremendous amount-temperatures are not drastically colder, but cold enough to keep the temperatures where it is.
00:32:24This has been a heavy snow event.
00:32:26A high-water content event.
00:32:28Not where you have the light fluffy stuff blowing around.
00:32:32This is heavy, hard to shovel stuff.
00:32:36And not bad snowball and sledding stuff either.
00:32:40Adults are going, please, enough.
00:32:433 Inches in central park, the month of january.
00:32:46All-time snow.
00:32:479, newark at 2, you see the highly populated cities g crushed.
00:32:58Travel has been shut down at new york and newark.
00:33:00If you're traveling ought of those airports, including and baltimore, also you're going to see a tremendous am of delays.
00:33:08Not cancellations already today.
00:33:11And chicago, minneapolis, also some snow.
00:33:14This is a moisture-starve evidence system there it.
00:33:18Temperatures potentially coming at you tomorrow through sunday.
00:33:22Enough's enough, I suppose.
00:33:23We haven't even gotten to february.
00:33:25And we've had serious snowstorms during the month of february.
00:33:27>> I don't know where we're going to put a couple more inches.
00:33:31I mean, seriously, you see these enormous mountains made by all the plowing.
00:33:36What a mess.
00:33:37Thanks, rob.
00:33:38>>> The storm's paralyzing travel up and down the i-knife corridor this morning.
00:33:43This is a scene in i-notify, this is in darian northbound.
00:33:49It was shut down.
00:33:50They're claiming they were going to get it open at 6:00 a.m.
00:33:55Idling trucks star the eye can see.
00:33:58Still challenged to get it open.
00:33:59They were trying tour 6:00 a.m.
00:34:02We're hearing it is in fact shut down.
00:34:04>>> And the snow-crushing budgets up and down the east coast.
00:34:09The nation weight capital spent 49% of their $6.4 million.
00:34:17In boston, they deleted about 16% of their $16 million snow budget.
00:34:22>>> And now another expensive snow emergency in boston, it's still coming down.
00:34:26The kids are already getting their fourth snow day today.
00:34:29Boston has already gotten more than 50 inches of snow this winter.
00:34:33The city has so-called snow farms set up in vacant lots.
00:34:36As we're talking about, you need some place to dump it all.
00:34:40Reynolds wolf live outside in boston this morning.
00:34:43So, boy, what a mess.
00:34:46>> Reporter: Yeah, I'm telling you what, we're in boston's back bay where the snow has really begun to taper off a bit.
00:34:54What you're seeing for the time being is the wind.
00:34:56The wind's actually moving through the high buildings.
00:34:59It accelerates a little bit.
00:35:00So when it getshere about 40 miles per hour.
00:35:04So visibility for drivers could be kind of poor to sate least.
00:35:07The bottom line is if you don't need to get out on the roadways, by all means don't.
00:35:13In terms of travel, things are tough not only for the runways but the airports.
00:35:18200 Departures have been canceled.
00:35:22We're with cnn journalist bob crowley.
00:35:24Bob, come here for a moment.
00:35:26Folks, I want to show you something.
00:35:28You know when you have a four-wheel drive car and you feel like you have a sense of ability with driving.
00:35:35I want to show you, a jeep over here a little bit ago, stuck, mired in the frozen goo.
00:35:42The area of low pressure continues to kick out.
00:35:45The snow continues to pile up now, just wind-driven.
00:35:49Got good news, sidewalks are in in pretty good shape.
00:35:53Crews about working around the clock to keep things clear.
00:35:55That's good news.
00:35:56It's also good news for students.
00:35:58Public schools in boston are closed for the day.
00:36:01City services, city hall, will be open.
00:36:03One of the reasons why, because.
00:36:05Great job these guys are doing.
00:36:06Watch your eyes, bob.
00:36:07These guys have been busy throughout the morning.
00:36:10Again, we may see sunshine throughout the afternoon.
00:36:13Better weather to come for boston throughout the day.
00:36:15Possibly an inch of snowfall as we get towards the middle of the weekend.
00:36:18Let's kick it back to you in new york, guys.
00:36:21>> All right.
00:36:22You talked about plowing through your snow budget up there as well.
00:36:25It is unbelievable.
00:36:26Do you have any look ahead in terms of february?
00:36:29Is this supposed to be tapering off or are we looking at round after round?
00:36:33>> Well, I'll tell you what, april's a long way away, isn't it.
00:36:37It really is.
00:36:38They've had snow here in boston for opening day, when the sox take over at fenway park.
00:36:44There's a possibility we could see a few more snowfalls.
00:36:47No question about it.
00:36:48But I'm telling you it seems like a long winter.
00:36:51The rest of february to go through, march and april.
00:36:53Certainly possible we may see a few more doses of heavy snowfall in the region.
00:36:58>> Reynolds for us in snowy boston.
00:37:01Thanks so much.
00:37:02>>> Well drug smugglers are going medieval now, using an ancient weapon.
00:37:07Take a look.
00:37:08It was all caught on tape.
00:37:09According to federal officials, what you're seeing here is surveillance video of alleged mexican drug smugglers catapulting marijuana across the border.
00:37:20/mexico border in arizona.
00:37:23But they are launching this stuff using a catapult.
00:37:27Authorities seized some 45 pounds of marijuana.
00:37:30>>> Homeland security getting rid.
00:37:33Color-coded terror alert system.
00:37:35Secretary janet napolitano is expected to make it official today.
00:37:40A lot of critics slammed the system from the start saying it scared people rather than telling them anything.
00:37:47Sources say it will be replaced by a national terrorism advisory system.
00:37:53>>> And take a look at the tumble that jimmy buffett took off the stage in australia.
00:38:00Did you see that?
00:38:01It was caught on video.
00:38:02This knocked him unconscious.
00:38:04He had to go to the hospital where he was treated.
00:38:06He got a few stitches on his head but the 64-year-old singer is out of the hospital now, said to be doing okay.
00:38:13But, man that was a heck of a tumble.
00:38:16>> It was.
00:38:17>>> Ford's issuing a recall for more than 400,000 windstar minivans in cold weather states.
00:38:25There are defects in brackets and mounts that could force a driver to lose coal.
00:38:311988 To 2003 model years.
00:38:34Ford says there have been several crashes and several minor injuries related to this problem.
00:38:39>>> And there are more than 500 million of you facebook users out there, and all of you concerned about your security on that site.
00:38:46Well, this won't make you feel any better.
00:38:47The founder of facebook, even his fan page was hacked.
00:38:52A message was posted on mark zuckerberg's page.
00:38:55And it read, let me quote it to you here.
00:38:59"Let the hacking begin, if facebook needs money instead of going to the banks, why doesn't facebook let its users invest in " of course making reference to hundreds of millions of dollars that facebook has just raised from investors.
00:39:13Facebook not commenting on this hack so far.
00:39:15>>> Well, taco bell wants you to think outside of bun.
00:39:21But this morning, many people wondering what's inside of the tacos.
00:39:24We're talking about this lawsuit filed by a consumer group that claims that, quote, beef is actually a meat mixture that doesn't even have 50% meat.
00:39:35Our stephanie elam is "minding your business" this morning.
00:39:39>> A meat mixture does not at all sound good.
00:39:42>> It's so delicious.
00:39:43>> I have had taco bell, but i haven't had the beef since high school.
00:39:48Junior high, probably.
00:39:49But, this is a big deal for a lot of people, this whole story here about what's going on with taco bell.
00:39:55It reminds me of an older " because that's at the heart of this conversation here.
00:40:03What this consumer is claiming a woman in california who started this class action suit.
00:40:07She's saying that there is just not enough beef.
00:40:09Take a look at this graph here.
00:40:11They're saying, their claim is taco bell's beef is 65% of fiber, additives, flavors and coloring and only 35% beef.
00:40:19Now, to taco bell's point, they're saying that this lawsuit is completely bogus, that that is not the case.
00:40:25And they say, hey, our beef is 88% beef.
00:40:29Does that make you feel better?
00:40:31What the heck is 88%?
00:40:34Well, they're saying that the reason for this difference is because there's also seasonings and spices and water and all the other ingredients that you put in there like your mama's meatloaf.
00:40:46Here's the statement they put out saying they basically cook with a proprietary recipe to give our beef with texture just like you cook at home.
00:40:59The reason this claim came up, too, because if you look at the packages that the meat arrives in, it does say taco meat filling on the packaging.
00:41:09>> Meat filling.
00:41:10>> That's with they're saying this isn't real.
00:41:14But they're saying they have spices in there.
00:41:17>> Yeah, but it's to fill the taco.
00:41:19It's the taco filling.
00:41:22>> That's what they're saying.
00:41:24>> I did love t-bell growing up.
00:41:26>>> Thank you.
00:41:27>>> Coming up, there have been protests in the streets of a majorle u.s. ally.
00:41:31 is responding.
00:41:33>>> Also, gabrielle giffords, an update on her kick the next phase of her remarkable recovery.
00:41:39Doctors were able to remove the tube draining fluid from her brain.
00:41:43They say it's a situation that resolved itself.
00:41:47And now, she's headed to the rehab center.
00:41:49We'll talk to the head of the rehab center.
00:42:41Seven years ago,i had this idea.
00:42:43To make baby foodthe way moms would.
00:42:45Happybaby strives to makethe best organic baby food.
00:42:49In a business like ours, personal connectionsare so important.
00:42:52We use our americanexpress open gold card to furtherthose connections.
00:42:56Last year we took dozens of trips using membership rewards points to meet with the farmers that grow our sweet potatoes and merchants thatsell our product.
00:43:03We've gone from beingin 5 stores to 7,500.
00:43:07Booming is using pointsto make connections that grow your business.
00:43:21>> Announcer: This is cnn, breaking news.
00:43:24>>> This is a breaking story we are following out of davos where there has been an explosion at a hotel.
00:43:30This is, of course, davos, where our sanjay gupta.
00:43:35He's there covering the world economic forum.
00:43:38Sanjay, what can you tell us about how significant of a blast this was?
00:43:41>> Well, we're just getting more details in now, t.j.
00:43:45What we know, this happened at a hotel called the post hotel morisani.
00:43:52It's one of the bigger hotels, a hotel where a lot of people from davos stay.
00:43:58It's also the base for the swiss government during this forum as well.
00:44:03It's about half a mile from the conference center specifically.
00:44:05And what we now know, near the back entrance of the hotel there was an explosion.
00:44:09It was described as a small detonation.
00:44:13It blew out one of the windows.
00:44:15There was no confirmed injury as a result of this.
00:44:18For some time, it was unclear whether this was either a criminal activity or not.
00:44:22, that there was in fact an e-mail sent by an organization that is an anti-world economic forum organization, sent an e-mail to the folks around the hotel, threatening some sort of attack on the hotel.
00:44:35That e-mail came in before this explosion.
00:44:37So that's what we're sort of gathering now.
00:44:39I will tell you as well, that this particular hotel is home to lots of different events, including a party.
00:44:46A reception tonight, by the coca-cola company with special guest, bill clinton, the former president.
00:44:53That was expected to happen tonight.
00:44:54We don't know if that's still going to occur or not.
00:44:57I thinthough details are still being worked out.
00:44:59Again, a small explosion.
00:45:01Major hotel for a lot of forum attendees here, t.j.
00:45:04A lot of the people trying to figure out exactly what's going on.
00:45:08>> Sanjay, you just mentioned the former president bill clinton there.
00:45:12Give us an idea how many people actually attend the conference and just what kind of names you do have running around there, THE KIND OF VIPs?
00:45:19>> Yeah, let me give you a little context.
00:45:22You have about 2,500 people overall.
00:45:25But they're a veritable who's who in the financial world, the golf world prp you have more than 30 heads of state, including former president clinton, david cameron, the russian president was here yesterday.
00:45:39And it sort of is meant for an opportunity for a private collaboration that's not official, not formal.
00:45:48But gathers a lot of people.
00:45:50, i should tell you it's a small remote town.
00:45:55It's only one road in, one road out.
00:45:5913,000 People actually live here.
00:46:00But 2,500 come and attend the conference.
00:46:03I was literally walking down the street when I heard police starting to whisper about the hotel and started to get details as a result of that.
00:46:11So it's a small community.
00:46:12Again, when something like this happens, you can see a buzz of activity surrounding something like this.
00:46:17>> Sanjay, we appreciate you this morning.
00:46:19If you get any nor details, by all means, let us know, we'll chat with you again.
00:46:24Thanks so much.
00:46:25>>> Meanwhile, another update for you, nor headaches for your commute because of this winter storm.
00:46:32We're getting an update from amtrak right now.
00:46:35Their media relations saying they have now suspended service from new york to boston.
00:46:41They've also suspended service from new haven to springfield, connecticut.
00:46:45Also, the empire service, this is what services new york city to albany, they say this is operating now on a reduced schedule and that they're also reduced and limited cancellations between washington and new york.
00:46:58Obviously a popular commuter corridor there.
00:47:03They say call 1-800-usa rail.
00:47:09Service from new haven to springfield, connecticut, also suspended.
00:47:14>>> Meanwhile, one of the arab's closest allies clashing with demonstrators in egypt.
00:47:24They want president mubarak out.
00:47:26And they're being silenced online as well with some of the social media blocked.
00:47:31Seems to be having a domino effect in the middle east right now, with recent clashes in wife other arab nations.
00:47:39Ben wedeman is live in cairo this morning with the latest.
00:47:43What is the latest, ben?
00:47:47>> Reporter: Yes, kiran, we're hearing reports of clashes between police and protesters on the town on the su ed canal.
00:47:58Our crew is on the suez canal, where the population is seething with rage.
00:48:06Three protesters were killed.
00:48:08Last night, the protesters sort of went on a rampage in suez.
00:48:13Fire bombing the police station there.
00:48:16Police obviously very nervous.
00:48:17Here in cairo, the situation seems to be calmer than it was yesterday.
00:48:22But it's still earlier in the day.
00:48:24Usually the protests really pick 00 in the afternoon, when people get out of university.
00:48:29Get out of work.
00:48:31We're hearing of also a gathering of striking workers in the town south of cairo.
00:48:37So all of this is really just building up to tomorrow.
00:48:41The opposition parties and the protest movement are all calling for 1 million people to come out into the streets of cairo and other egyptian cities, after friday prayer.
00:48:51So the government is bracing for this thing to really go even bigger than it already has gone.
00:48:59Kiran.
00:48:59>> Ben wedeman for us in egypt.
00:49:02Thanks so much.
00:49:02>>> Well, when is a party a party?
00:49:05Well, the brand-new senate tea party caucus having its first meeting today.
00:49:09But exactly how many people will show up.
00:49:11We'll talk to one of the founding members.
00:49:14>>> Also, beware of a slumbering super volcano.
00:49:19That's right, it's sitting underneath yellowstone national park.
00:49:22It's been there for centuries.
00:49:24But scientists say there is a possibility it could erupt.
00:49:27What would happen?
00:49:29We'll talk about it up canning up.
00:49:3120 Minutes past the hour.
00:49:36--Captions by VITAC--."RR4U &J[Fé(ZPMé$w." >>> Well, at 21 minutes past the hour now, we are going to see a first on capitol hill today.
00:51:02The first ever meeting of the new senate tea party caucus.
00:51:06One of the founding members is with us this morning.
00:51:09Senator mike lee of utah, republican, joining us now.
00:51:13You're a founding member of this thing.
00:51:15How many members do you have, sir?
00:51:17>> We have three members so far.
00:51:19And we're looking forward to our meeting this morning.
00:51:21>> Now, three members, that doesn't sound like much of a party this morning.
00:51:27>> No, no, it's a relatively small group at this point.
00:51:30And I don't think it necessarily needs to be big.
00:51:32We're not intending this to be a full-blown influential caucus.
00:51:36We're intending this could be a conduit for information to pass between individuals who sympathize with the tea party movement in the united states senate.
00:51:47>> Now, you said you don't want it to be a full-blown and influential caucus.
00:51:53If not influential, then what?
00:51:54>> No, my point is simply to say, this caucus exists, first and foremost to be a conduit of information between tea party sympathizers and the u.s.
00:52:08Senate.
00:52:09We've invited every member of the senate, regardless of which party they belong to, hopefully to get more.
00:52:14If not, we'll get into discussions.
00:52:20>> You hope you'll get more.
00:52:22Do you have an idea how many you'd like to at least sound successful or relevant.
00:52:26I understand you're saying three, but it just sounds small in some ways, maybe even insignificant?
00:52:32>> No, my point is, as far as I'm concerned, even if it stays at three, it will fullfy its purpose of allowing people to simple that pies with the that he party movement to communicate their ideas to the u.s. senate.
00:52:46>> Wow like senator marco rubio, he, of course, got all kind of tea party support.
00:52:54But so far, he's refused to join?
00:52:55>> Yeah, look, we'd love to have marco.
00:53:00We'd love marco and lots of other members of the senate to join.
00:53:03I'd love every member of the senate to join with us.
00:53:07If anyone chooses to join, we welcome them, if not, we'll wait for them next time.
00:53:11We'll see what happens.
00:53:12>> Do you think that will come across as some kind of a rejection, or even betrayal, given how much support he did receive from the tea party?
00:53:20>> Absolutely not.
00:53:21Absolutely not.
00:53:22Look, this is a voluntary thing.
00:53:25Again, we'd love to have him.
00:53:28We'd love to have any other member of the senate.
00:53:31Hopefully, we'll get him to some of the meetings.
00:53:34>> Michele bachmann, also a republican tea party supporter.
00:53:39They gave the tea party response to the state of the union the other night.
00:53:43If you had your way and if americans had only listened to one response to the state of the union, would you have preferred for them to hear the official gop response or the tea party response?
00:53:54>> Well, look, I've never supported any effort to have the tea party become a party.
00:54:00And so, anytime you have a member of the tea party speaking, I think that's a good thing but I don't think it's there to try to replace any republican response.
00:54:09It's certainly not there to replace the republican party.
00:54:13So that's not a closed question.
00:54:15>> Do you think it certainly was a different tone from the official gop response?
00:54:19And was that the point?
00:54:21>> I think that the message of the tea party is one of limited government and that's an idea that's in lockstep with the republican party.
00:54:29That's why I've never seen the tea party as anything that would replace the party.
00:54:33It's simply a grassroots political phenomenon that's sweeps across the country, as americans have realized that their federal government has grown too big and too expensive.
00:54:42>> One of the concerns of senator rubio, at least, was that this was supposed to be a grassroots, leaderless movement.
00:54:49And by having a senate tea party caucus, you are here now as a founding member, at least a face of the tea party caucus.
00:55:00Do you have that concern as well.
00:55:02That maybe this will become and you will become a face of the party that is supposed to be leaderless?
00:55:09>> No, that risk is not present here.
00:55:12What I meant initially when i was describing to you the purpose of this.
00:55:16The purpose of it isn't to speak for the senate or to speak for any one group within the senate.
00:55:22The purpose is, rather, to provide an open forum in which members of the tea party sympathizers out there that come and discuss with some united states senators their concerns.
00:55:33That's all it is.

01:58:01But for the people who are going, they may want to take a cab to get from the airport to the hotel, to the venue, whatever they want to do.
01:58:10That may be harder for people because the taxi association there is thinking about boycotting, because they are saying this new initiative in dallas with the natural gas taxis get to go to the front of the line of the airport is not fair and they will spend hours in line and so they may boycott the whole week.
01:58:28Stuff going on the whole week leading up to the super bowls.
01:58:34Fashion parties, and a lot going on in the city.
01:58:35Because of that, they are saying this is not fair and if it was really about clean energy, if it was really about helping out the environment they would include hybrids.
01:58:44The city says this is not that big of a deal.
01:58:47Only at the airport about 1,800 people will use a cab on a normal day.
01:58:52Problem is super bowl is not a normal time and on top of it, a lot of people want to go out to eat and out to drink and they don't want to drive and want to be responsible.
01:59:00If the cabs aren't there, in dallas, texas, everything is spread out.
01:59:05There is work on that and litigation to try to make it go away.
01:59:12The city says it will not cause that much of a disruption so we will see.
01:59:15>> Stephanie, appreciate you this morning.
01:59:22>>> We have been following news out of davos, switzerland.
01:59:28A hotel hosting that forum, an explosion in the hotel.
01:59:32We are told a couple of windows were broken but swiss police say no one was injured.
01:59:37 sanjay gupta was reporting from davos this morning that threatening e-mails were sent before the devastation from an anti-forum group.
01:59:48Much more on that coming up.
01:59:50>>> A lot of people waking up to a foot of snow and people are trying to get around but a lot of people not going anywhere including in new york city.
01:59:56Got some 15 inches of snow.
01:59:58The roads out there are a mess.
02:00:00The airlines, airports are a mess out there as well.
02:00:03, philly, new york and boston today.
02:00:07>>> More than a thousand flights to boston.
02:00:10Some airports in the new york area still struggling to open up.
02:00:13The latest update that we got on that, by the way, is that newark is going to be reopening for departures in about 30 minutes is what they are hoping according to the faa website and opening to arrivals at noon.
02:00:2500 this morning.
02:00:28AGAIN, NO CLOSURES at LaGuardia but many canceled flights.
02:00:33>>> Turn to sandra who is live with us in washington.
02:00:36Difficult to do business in this kind of weather and not a lot of business in a lot of places today either.
02:00:42 and kiran.
02:00:44You can see the beautiful blanket of snow here on the national mall.
02:00:48The sun is out.
02:00:51The snow is melting slowly.
02:00:52This is what people are dealing with.
02:00:54Take a look at the conditions.
02:00:55It turned to ice and it's crunchy and hard and what people have to shovel out from under their driveways and their cars and it's pretty much slow going this morning, as you mentioned.
02:01:06You can take a look, though, things aren't that bad because these major roads here have been plowed.
02:01:13But keep in mind this would be normal rush hour for the nation's capital but a lot of government offices have allowed their employees to come in about two hours later, so the public schools are closed as well.
02:01:26So a lot of people handling this with a lot of precaution this morning because there are dangerous conditions.
02:01:33A lot of the area airports you were talking about this, kiran.
02:01:35They are closed throughout the east coast.
02:01:38, a lot of the airports as well having a tough time with the snow and working furiously to make sure the runways are open.
02:01:47There were some closures was hit the hardest.
02:01:51The snow is coming pretty much an inch an hour and 6 inches in all.
02:01:56This isn't anything like the snow apocalypse we dealt with last year.
02:02:01Some people were stranded along the streets and highways yesterday.
02:02:04We were hearing stories and getting tweets about people who had commutes about four miles to get home.
02:02:10It took two hours.
02:02:12Not a fun time yesterday.
02:02:14But, again, things are thawing out here and people are just taking it in stride.
02:02:18>> That's all they can do really at this point.
02:02:22Two-hour delay for the federal government and they are saying if you can work at home, you can telecommute.
02:02:27They might let you do that.
02:02:29Might be a better idea.
02:02:30>> Oh, yeah.
02:02:30One more thing.
02:02:32You know, people take the good and the bad.
02:02:34Of course, people from washington know how to handle the snow because of the experience from last year?
02:02:39Well, facebook had a big gathering and a lot of people came out yesterday.

02:07:45Sports is great and given me everything in my life but i wanted to start a debate.
02:07:49We do have black doctors and lawyers and teachers and firemen and policemen, but, unfortunately, if you look at the graduation rates, our black kids -- it's our fault.
02:07:59Our parents, some of these parents have not done a good job.
02:08:04I want them to stop looking at black jocks and entertainers as the only way they can be successful.
02:08:09>> That is parents' fault.

02:08:16The people we are working for are making money.
02:08:19Unfortunately, it has a negative impact on the black community and we, as black people, we as black people, have to take a better responsibility of that.

02:09:17>> But also of the move itself.
02:09:18You said and larry and michael y'all would never try to team up to make a super team.
02:09:23You want to beat those guys.
02:09:26Are you ready to say that criticism maybe not warranted because it seems to be working out pretty well in miami right now.
02:09:31>> Miami is going to win.
02:09:33They have dwyane.
02:09:33They are going to have a great team.
02:09:35My criticism, number one, about the way he handled the cleveland thing and all anybody would have been really concerned with.
02:09:42I think also we were a little disappointed.
02:09:44He was a two-time defending nba mvp.

02:17:52We got another 15.3 inches.
02:17:53I think that is probably going to go up in central park breaking the record for january and chewing through our entire snow budget for the season here in new york city.

02:18:22>> Very nice.
02:18:23>> It's going to be slightly above freezing today so that will help a little bit.

02:18:42Norwalk and new cannan, connecticut 17 and 18 inches of snow and came down in a hurry.
02:18:50It came down in a 24-hour period and winding down in boston.
02:18:54I think they got a foot or maybe an inch or two less than that.
02:18:57Winds, we saw 40 to 50-mile-an-hour winds and a number of people without power especially maryland and delaware where the snow is mixed with sleet and freezing rain and weighed this down.
02:19:07This was a heavy wet snow event which is different from the blizzard which was dry and fluffy and blowing around quite a bit.
02:19:15A beast nonetheless and making it difficult to clear away when you have that much weight in something you try to move around.
02:19:20Temperatures right now around 30 in boston.
02:19:23Temperatures around the freezing mark in new york city.
02:19:26Behind the front is not terribly colder air so we will see some melting today but mostly on the roadways where they are treated with salt and on the sidewalks.
02:19:34But the bulk of the snow which is piled up on the sides is going to hang around and will refrigerate the air tonight.
02:19:40Temperatures will easily get below freezing tonight.
02:19:46 kennedy and battling to get open the runways.
02:19:49Regardless a number of flights canceled and there is going to be delays where the flights have not been canceled.
02:19:55 will see delays.
02:20:01Chicago and minneapolis, detroit, cleveland, yeah, another snowstorm that is barreling across the western great lakes.
02:20:07Here it is.
02:20:07This isn't the blockbuster event that we saw with this last one, but, nonetheless, it's got snow and warm and windy out west.
02:20:15You might see a couple of more inches of snowfall in new york city come tomorrow afternoon with this next one.
02:20:20That may put you over the edge for the snowiest month ever set february of last year.
02:20:26Two years in a row for a blockbuster winter.
