00:00:08 we will hear the wiretap conversations in that play-to-pay in illinois.
00:00:10A lot of folks think rod blagojevich will be heading to the slammer.
00:00:14Why will very a hand in picking who takes over for rahm emanuel.
00:00:19What gives?
00:00:21 joan mass brothers advocate abstinence in case you didn't know.
00:00:25There is new information out this morning saying it doesn't really work.
00:00:29Are virginity pledges a waste of time?
00:00:33Brian: I'm swearing off them.
00:00:35Visiting your family can really drive you nuts.
00:00:38Now there is research to prove it.
00:00:40This hour slogan comes from tommy jones.
00:00:45He says this if this is "fox & friends," the person who asks the best questions wins.
00:00:50[Captioning made possible by fox news channel] captioned by the national captioning institute org-- terrify dave good tuesday morning.
00:01:05I kind of lose track.
00:01:07 you have been working every day since the weekend.
00:01:09One re day until new year's eve.
00:01:11 you probably lovnew year's eve.
00:01:15Alisyn: it's very exciting.
00:01:17Good riddens to 2008.
00:01:19Resolutions for the new year on the blog.
00:01:20We are talking about that this morning.
00:01:22 a lot of people have decided to put weight on and start smoking more.
00:01:25We are getting a lot of sarcasm.
00:01:28Dave: can I appreciate that.
00:01:32 actually bob I gain 10 pounds exercise less and fit in another pack a day.
00:01:37Believe in yourself.
00:01:38Put it on your mirror with a sticky note you can do it.
00:01:41At this point to eat.
00:01:42When you are tired wake yourself up in the middle of the night and snack for goodness sake.
00:01:48Alisyn: and smoke.
00:01:50 fire and groggy doesn't usually mix.
00:01:52Good news straight ahead.
00:01:55Benjamin netanyahu wants to be prime minister again.
00:01:59 former prime minister could be future prime minister.
00:02:0196-99 He was prime minister.
00:02:04 we need to talk to him about the situation in gaza.
00:02:06The situation continues.
00:02:07Weeed to hear just exactly what is the end game.
00:02:11Obviously israel wants to stop the rockets coming in from over the border and from hamas.
00:02:15How long will all of this air strike campaign continue?
00:02:19We'll talk to him about that.
00:02:21Brian: first week in december.
00:02:22We heard about the governor of -- I want to say governor of chicago.
00:02:27Illinois.
00:02:27Being hauled out of his house in handcuffs.
00:02:30You would never think as we get ready to start of the new year that he would still have the job of governor of illinois.
00:02:39 here is the calendar, the blago watch.
00:02:42This guy will never leave.
00:02:44Thought prosecutor fitzgerald wants those wiraps release sod that committee who wants to impeach him can hear all about it specifically the tape they want released is one where he essentially says he might pull for this gambling legislation if you give money to his campaign.
00:02:59And you say this is the beginning of the investigation.
00:03:03 my understanding of it is they have been investigating blagojevich for three years.
00:03:06We only just heard that the whole thing about selling the senate seat, that was just a cherry on top of the ssundae.
00:03:15That was a bonus.
00:03:16Who knew he was going to have a senate seat he could sell.
00:03:19For three years they have been investigating him.
00:03:21Obviously they have a mod of other evidence and they have some tape recordings and they this has to do with his pay-to-play scandal casino bill he wanted cash back for the legislation.
00:03:35 for helping this legislation.
00:03:38 we understand to impeach him they want patrick fitzgerald to turn over -- do me a favor.
00:03:42We try to impeach this governor that you are investigating on a federal level can we have this stuff and patrick fitzgerald says no, no.
00:03:49You are not screwing up my investigation.
00:03:51I will settle on four wiretaps that I can send to you.
00:03:53He asked the federal judge, listen kirks turn over four wiretaps because she's guys are having trouble impeaching this governor believe it or not from what they have.
00:04:02His lawyer says they can only recommend impeachment by illinois law if the evidence is clear and convincing.
00:04:09And so far what you have is innuendo.
00:04:12You have hearsay.
00:04:12And other things.
00:04:14Wiretaps but they have the got to be able to enter that in impeachment hearings.
00:04:19 how can they do these without the wiretaps?
00:04:21Alisyn: they need them.
00:04:22They are going to clearly have to have them.
00:04:25 let's face it all you hear so far is a scheme.
00:04:27You hear he has a scheme and he has this very grandiose idea.
00:04:31What are they going to give me.
00:04:32I'm sitting on this goldible seat?
00:04:34What am I going to get for it?
00:04:35That's just a little nutty but it's not necessarily criminal.
00:04:41Colorful language shockingly.
00:04:43 well, we know now we are in day four of the israeli hit into gaza to try to once and for all get rid of those hamas militants.
00:04:51Terrorists who are targeting their cities with missiles.
00:04:56They had 80 on wednesday alone.
00:04:58Then we know about what happened over the weekend.
00:05:00Where do we stand right now?
00:05:02David lee miller is life right in the war zone in the eye of the storm.
00:05:05The israeli-gaza border with the latest.
00:05:07David, what's the movement today today?
00:05:11>> Well, since we last talked, brian.
00:05:13We saw a number of rockets being fired from gaza.
00:05:18One went directly over our heads.
00:05:21That's why many of the journalists have flack jackets and we have our helmets ready one of the rockets hit a home.
00:05:28There haveeen no fatalities today.
00:05:30Yesterday three israelis were killed.
00:05:31One of them in the city city.
00:05:36It's a strike that's 25 miles, almost 25 miles across the border.
00:05:40Also yesterday, an israeli soldier was killed by a mortar that was fired by the militants.
00:05:46Meanwhile, the israeli air strikes have continued overnight a number of government buildings were hit.
00:05:52Most notably the finance ministry.
00:05:55The ministry of the interior and also the foreign ministry.
00:05:57And they are specifically targeting rocket launchers as well as arsenals.
00:06:02The prime minister has said that they are going to treat hamas with an iron fist but he also said that for the people of gaza, they are going to be treated with silk gloves.
00:06:12Today some 100 trucks, shipments of food and humanitarian supplies are being allowed into gaza.
00:06:19The situation there very dire.
00:06:21We are told the hospitals are simply overwhelmed.
00:06:23But the rocket attacks, the mortar attacks, nevertheless, they continue, israeli forces remain on the border, poised for a possible ground incursion.
00:06:38Brian?
00:06:38 we will check in with you again.
00:06:40I'm sure you will be interested we will be talking with benjamin netten I -- netanyahu.
00:06:49Modern leaders are not unhappy that they are implementing this invasion.
00:06:53You can't have peace with an organization that doesn't recognize your existence.
00:06:57That is hamas.
00:06:58 there is suggestions they knew about it beforehand.
00:07:00We have been asking netten i can't hue about that a suspicious power found inside a letter addressed to barack obama.
00:07:07It forced two illinois state office buildings into lockdown.
00:07:10Both buildings stayed close for several hours while police investigated.
00:07:15Tests show the powder was harmss.
00:07:17The letter was mailed from chicago.
00:07:19That's where a suspect was taken into custody.
00:07:21Well, last week's christmas eve massacre could have been even worse.
00:07:26Police in california say the santa shooter who murdered nine people at a christmas party may have planned to kill others.
00:07:32Cops say that bruce pardo might have planned to target his ex-wife's divorce attorney.
00:07:36They say that pardo's mother was also supposed to go to the party but she didn't because she was sick.
00:07:42We have also learned pardo planned to flee to iowa, not canada as previously reported.
00:07:48Well, an ocean-wide mystery looks as though it's closer to being solved though many questions still remain.
00:07:54Her family says that she may have jumped from a cruiseship off the coast of cancun, mexico.
00:08:00That's the woman, of course, that you are seeing there jennifer seitz.
00:08:04The coast guard says the search for the 36-year-old woman is over.
00:08:08Meanwhile we are learning more her husband, raymond seitz was arrested in april for domestic abuse after being accused of head butting his wife.
00:08:17He was not accused of a crime but ordered to take some classes there are cars out there that can park themselves and ford is hoping that they will help save the business.
00:08:26Ford will offer lincolns next year that can park themselves.
00:08:30This is fascinating.
00:08:31Can they parallel park?
00:08:33They use a computer.
00:08:36Buyers of the mks sedan and mkt crossover will have the option of buying this new technology.
00:08:42Lexus has already tried similar technology but without scess.
00:08:46Not sure what happened when the car tried to park itself but it didn't go well.
00:08:51Brain -- how does a car know when you want to park?
00:08:56 there are many people who can't parallel park but somehow a car can do it.
00:09:01 we are finding you a spot you look exhausted.
00:09:05 people in new york hit your bumper bacm and forth for 10 minutes anyway.
00:09:09 I resent that stereotype and so does alisyn who almost owned a car.
00:09:16Dave: they are awful out here.
00:09:17You said it before, my family drives me nuts.
00:09:20You are right there.
00:09:21Is a study to back it up.
00:09:22The numbers coming up.
00:09:24 blame yourself because they look like you.
00:09:28 also, caroline kennedy went on a media blitz this weekd did.
00:09:30She filibuster her chances at becoming the next senator?
00:11:53 what is going on between the "new york times" and caroline kennedy.
00:11:54She game angry at a reporting saying.
00:11:57This caroline to blame or is there some history there with the "new york times"?
00:12:06Has "new york times" been pushing the envelope for no apparent reason.
00:12:10Joining us now a guy who always pushes the envelope bob beckel and terry holt who will also take what's in the envelope when given.
00:12:20First off, I guess caroline kennedy and the "new york " why isn't this a match made in heaven, bob beckel?
00:12:25What's the back story?
00:12:26>> Well, a couple things here.
00:12:28First of all, the "new york times" would be expected to sort of be a promoter of caroline kennedy for the senate.
00:12:34They wanted to kind of prove themselves -- all the media now who were in favor of barack obama are now out trying to sort of straighten it out.
00:12:42Be you know, be tougher now.
00:12:43I'm glad they were the way they were for barack obama.
00:12:46That's one.
00:12:46But, two, caroline kennedy is being held to a different stashed.
00:12:50Has anybody been asked about clothing or the question that got her to respond this way.
00:12:54Any of the other 13 or 14 people want to be in the united states senate?
00:12:57No.
00:12:58She is being held to a different standard.
00:13:00I don't think that's right.
00:13:01Frankly, I keep going back to this why patterson decided to let this thing hang out here this long is beyond me it should are been done in the middle of the night and said here it is.
00:13:12Brian: no questions.
00:13:12Wake up in the morning and have a new senator?
00:13:14That would put away the controversy?
00:13:17What is the back story.
00:13:18The questions are too soft?
00:13:19>> I think got it right.
00:13:23I don't agree with his beings cans.
00:13:26The "new york times" is known to be the sort of anti-republican newspaper around the country and this was an easyarget.
00:13:34Caroline kennedy, let's face it if her name weren't kennedy, she wouldn't be in serious contention for this senate seat.
00:13:42So, this whereas an easy target for the "new york times" to prove heir jobs, to prove that they can be tough on anybody.
00:13:48But I don't blame them for that it's like, you know, blaming a mean dog for biting somebody.
00:13:53They are going to do it every time.
00:13:55She should have been a little bit more ready.
00:13:57A little bit more disciplined.
00:13:59You know, to get off track and attack a reporter during an interview, it's bad forum, guys.
00:14:08 unless you think she was trying to prove something by " she kissed up to new york one.
00:14:13You saw that video there.
00:14:15Very nice to the daily news and " the post had more people like people magazine type question.
00:14:21What's on your I pod?
00:14:22Did you ever do drugs in the 1970s the times the question was simply hey, think for a moment for the sake of story telling you can tell us about the moment like where you said to your husband I want to be senator from new york?
00:14:35What's wrong with that question?
00:14:37>> First of all, I didn't do drugs in the 70's so I wouldn't know.
00:14:41 I wasn't going to pose that question to you.
00:14:43>> Ok.
00:14:43The answer is to be honest with you, I did.
00:14:46But, look, she would have expected those questions from the "new york post" or some other news organizations.
00:14:54I think as I said in the beginning I think she expected to get an easier ride from the times.
00:14:58I also agree with terry on this.
00:15:01Whoever is advising her here is not doing frankly a very good job.
00:15:06She is in the middle of the most difficult press environment that any politician faces.
00:15:11That's the new york city press environment.
00:15:14You have to expect you are going to get tough questions even from people you consider to be friendly.
00:15:18Be prepared for them.
00:15:18One of the things youo for sure, rule number one is don't lose your cool.
00:15:23Just let it go right by and get it out.
00:15:27Get in and get out and hope you survive.
00:15:30>> Amen.
00:15:31 other thing that is strange she is running against herself for a position that's going to be selected, not elected.
00:15:36Where is the other candidates?
00:15:37>> The other candidates are rightfully looking at the correct audience here.
00:15:43They understand that they are going to be selected by a choice not by an election.
00:15:47She is out doing a pr blitz.
00:15:50I'm, frankly, dumbfounded that campaign has been so badly put together.
00:15:56Inmean, this is a pern who seems pretty inarticulate and wasn't the whole point to demonstrate that she had a level of seriousness that she brought?
00:16:06A level of interest in the public policies of the day?
00:16:09It just hasn't gone well.
00:16:10And, frankly, I feel bad for her because she is obviously an intelligent and a serious person.
00:16:17But this hasn't been the way to get the pick here.
00:16:21>> I will tell you where those other people have been.
00:16:24They have been out there taking pot shots at her off the record or in the background doing anything to undermine her candidacy.
00:16:31From a public relations standpoint, first of all she has been out campaigning for many months for barack obama.
00:16:36Has done very well.
00:16:37I don't buy this notion she is not up to the job or intelligent enoughnd I said last week, you a gynecologist as a united states senator.
00:16:45But here is the point I think if she had gone upstate she wouldn't have had knows kind of questions and b, first of all, frankly, people have been very surprised and been happy to see a kennedy.
00:16:58She wouldn't have had those questions.
00:16:59Why put her in front of the "new york times" editorial board.
00:17:02I don't get that.
00:17:02>> You have to do it.
00:17:04You cannot become.
00:17:07 did it all in the same day.
00:17:08>> Yeah, exactly.
00:17:0900 this the morning.
00:17:13 you like to do things in the middle of the night, bob.
00:17:14We have got to talk more about this in the break.
00:17:17Bob and terry stay right there.
00:17:19Phone companies act like they are doing a favor texting a whole lot and cost you nothing.
00:17:25It's a big scam.
00:17:26They are trying to suck you in.
00:17:28What your provider doesn't want you to know is coming your way.
00:17:32Abstinence program are the growing rage.
00:17:33Everywhere is vowing not to do anything.
00:17:35This morning we're learning that these programs don't work.
00:17:39So we are going to do everything.
00:17:41A couple that never kissed before marriage probably disagrees.
00:17:44They join us live.
00:18:26There's a newgain with baking soda and it made gail's sheets so sparkling clean, it was perfect for planning a special surprise for her husband.
00:18:33Hey, baby, you left the garage door open again.
00:18:34WOW.[ Chuckling ] [ Giggling ] Yeah. yeah.
00:18:39[ Sniff ] These sheets smell fantastic.
00:18:43[ Deep inhalation ] ..
00:18:47You smell fantastic, baby. mm-hmm.
00:18:48Newgainwith baking soda.
00:18:50The sparkling clean with a scent you'll really love.
00:18:56(crickets,ambient noises) the okay, I'll talk to you later. bye.
00:18:59(phone beeping off) (treadmill beeping on) (twigs snapping, leaves crunching) (Brink's alarm sounding) (gasping) TtFBMKT&çsx[NEL4BKÑIéhp2d"P!a(<u: 1$ $8$ (phone ringing) Hello?

00:21:04Dave: welcome back.
00:21:04Paparazzi snapped some picks of buff barack obama while on vacation in hawaii.
00:21:08This, despite secret service protection.
00:21:11So what is the deal?
00:21:12Do you think these things were plugged or planted?
00:21:16Brian: I don't know.
00:21:17We have two experts who have certain opinions about.
00:21:19This I can't find out what they are.
00:21:20Bob beckel a man who won't be photographed without his shirt on.
00:21:24>> Fortunately for all of you.
00:21:27 terry holt will not comment on this at all.
00:21:28He worked for president bush.
00:21:29Do you think, terry, that these pictures were planted?
00:21:35>> There are very few accidental pictures of presidents and president-elects.
00:21:41I don't believe in my heart of hearts this happened out of thin air.
00:21:43I will say to be fair all the beaches in hawaii as I found out by reading and preparing this morning are public beaches, obviously but I think that you know, barack obama has a distinct demographic.
00:21:56He wants to continue to appeal to younger people.
00:22:02This is kind of a paparazzi presidency.
00:22:04It's a little bit more like hollywood than it is washington, d.c.
00:22:11This is barack obama playing to that audience.
00:22:14 bob, do you think this helps barack obama having these photos out there?
00:22:17>> First of all, the jealousy that is emitting from y'all by these press interviews is unbelievable.
00:22:25What do you think we want in a president?
00:22:26You think we want somebody with a potbelly and those strings they wear in the jersey shore?
00:22:32Come on.
00:22:34>> Keep taxes low.
00:22:35Keep the country strong.
00:22:39Dave: to be fair.
00:22:39>> Wait a second.
00:22:40There is a public beach and keep in mind there has been pictures of -- remember barack obama ran for president there was pictures of him coming out of the surf.
00:22:50>> Totally different story.
00:22:53>> You don't wear your shirt unless you are you or me.
00:22:56>> He goes to the gym 90 minutes aday, bob.
00:22:59There has got to be a payoff somewhere.
00:23:02>> He is the heart throb of america here.
00:23:07 four men talking about a topless guy in the morning i don't know what this does for ratings.
00:23:12>> Who thought about this topic is what I want to know.
00:23:16Stayed up last night to decide to get in this top topic.
00:23:20Come on.
00:23:22 do you remember when president bush was criticized for working out too much.
00:23:25A "the washington post" writer who hinted well we have too much to do in our jobs should he be working out this much?
00:23:31I think that's why it's become a bit of an issue.
00:23:35It was spun the opposite way.
00:23:37>> President bush was down in his ranch 180 days in the first two years cutting brush and looking for arm dill las.
00:23:46>> Come on.
00:23:47You are being so mean this morning.
00:23:49>> I'm not being mean.
00:23:50I'm just saying.
00:23:52Obama got exercise machine all in the morning all of us could emulate that I wouldn't want you to, bob you would pass out in that heat.
00:24:04Brian: pecks and armadillo.
00:24:05I feel I'm unprepared for this segment.
00:24:08>> I wish you would get up to speed.
00:24:10These are the things we need to talk about.
00:24:12 the stuff the american public needs to know.
00:24:15Bob beckel and terry holt.
00:24:17Thank you.
00:24:17We appreciate your in-depth knowledge on both those subjects.
00:24:20Both pecks.
00:24:23Brian: absolutely.
00:24:24I believe we have two.
00:24:24That's what our biology calls for.
00:24:2624 Minutes after the hour.
00:24:27He was laid off.
00:24:29This man was determined to show could think outside the box.

00:27:29We have so much to talk about coming up for the rest of the show.
00:27:32There is a couple that took a virginity pledge.

00:27:42Cave dave how is that possible?
00:27:44 they didn't want to be led astray.

00:27:51So, they are now married.
00:27:53We are going to ask them how it's going.
00:27:55This is particularly significant today because there is a new federal study that shows shah virginity pledges don't work.
00:28:01We are going to get their take on it and tell us about this new data.
00:28:06 have virgins turn themselves in?
00:28:09 turns out there is no difference between making -- ultimately they are all having premarital sex or over 50%.

00:28:44They overshot the runway by 30 miles and failed to respond to airraffic control for 25 minutes.
00:28:51 that's one heck of a map.
00:28:53For 25 minutes.
00:28:54 you know when you fall asleep and usually you are awoken by somebody yelling into your head set.
00:29:01 because I wear the head sets and I try to keep in touch with my control room when I'm resting at home.
00:29:07That's the basis of airplane movies.
00:29:10Remember striker was in the back of the plane in the fuselage when they had a pilot.

00:31:58The other big story and we have been covering this for the last four days you guys over the weekend what's happening in gaza there has been bombings going on.
00:32:08Retaliatory bombings going on, now we are on day four.
00:32:11Israel rejected any idea of a truce and says it will continue its attacks until hamas rockets are all destroyed.
00:32:17Israel says it's ready for weeks of action as continuess a fierce barrage on the strip.
00:32:25 joining us now is benjamin netanyahu.
00:32:29What do you make of the escalation of action between israel and gaza over these past four days?
00:32:38>> Well, the escalation has taken place, alisyn, for the last three years when hamas fired 6,000 rockets from gaz on to israel's towns and cities.
00:32:496,000 Rocket.
00:32:50Now, you are sitting in new york, I gather, so just imagine you hear a siren.
00:32:56You have 30 seconds to get into an air raid shelter and a rocket comes into your neighborhood.
00:33:01That happens day after day, week after week, month after month for three years.
00:33:06Well, that's got to end and that's what israel is trying to do today.
00:33:09I met with the prime minister yesterday.
00:33:10I told him, listen, we are putting politics aside.
00:33:14We will support the government to protect the people of israel against these terrorists.
00:33:21 what is the likelihood of a ground invasion?
00:33:23I know tanks are now along the border.
00:33:25Is that likely at this point?
00:33:28>> Well, I think the government will have to take whatever action it needs to stop the rocketing.
00:33:33And ultimately al qaeda base, iraq base supported by iran they have no real grievance that we can accommodate.
00:33:53The grievance that we have once we have vacated every square inch of gaza they say we have to vacate every square inch of israel.
00:34:00Their goal is to destroy the state of israel.
00:34:02They are supported by iran that says we have to destroy the state of israel.
00:34:06They fire rockets to destroy the people of israel.
00:34:12In a way the only solution you to remove this regime.
00:34:17I don't know of any country delay woo suffer such attacks on population from an enemy that is committed to its destruction.
00:34:24We can't iranian base within spitting difference from tel aviv, which is what we have right now.
00:34:31 if they weren't sending the rockets you would have no case.
00:34:35They are still sending rockets over there.
00:34:37 prime minister is it true that many leaders and officials have let it known they are not upset by this action?
00:34:50>> Well, you know, I would put it this way.
00:34:52They have said that hamas is as much to blame as israel.
00:34:56Now, that's a pretty steep statement on their part because to include hamas while this action is tag place -- taking place physical it weren't for hamas it wouldn't happen.
00:35:12If they hadn't fired rockets, israel would probably not have taken action.
00:35:16They have fired 6,000 rockets.
00:35:17They have given us 6,000 reasons.
00:35:21I think no government would tolerate that you can imagine what the president of the united states would say if you had suffered 6,000 rockets on new york or chicago or miami from a neighboring entity.
00:35:36President-elect obama was a few months ago in sderot right next to gaza which had taken the brunt of the missile attacks.
00:35:44He said if my two daughters were sleeping in a house rocketed by these people, I would take whatever action is necessary to protect them.
00:35:52And in fact that's what israel is doing today.
00:35:55Whatever action is necessary to protect its population from these terrorist attacks.
00:36:00 neten I can't hue we spoke to the foreign minister of israel and she said something slightly different than what you are telling us this morning.

00:36:14Not yet.
00:36:14Why wait?

00:36:27Alisyn: she said not now.
00:36:29In other words, the ultimate goal in this particular action is not to unseat hamas.
00:36:33Why would she want to be waiting waiting?
00:36:38>> I don't know.
00:36:40You would have to ask her.
00:36:41I have said very clear live there is immediate goal of stopping the rockets and deterrence.
00:36:49Ultimately these are people you don't deter.
00:36:51They are committed to your destruction.
00:36:52They believe in the cult of death and suicide and so on.
00:36:56Ultimately we probably do have to take out hamas and whether the ultimately meets the immediate is something else.
00:37:03But, I think there is no question that down the line you could have a cease-fire.
00:37:08We did have one before.
00:37:09They bring in weapons that can reach right now the southern suburbs of tel aviv.
00:37:13In fact, they hit an area minutes from downtown tel aviv.
00:37:19Ultimately with people who are committed to your destruction show no concern for civilian casualties.
00:37:26And not ours and not theirs.
00:37:28They use civilians as human shield while targeting our civilians.
00:37:32I think this regime will have to go.
00:37:35 just to be totally clear here.
00:37:36Another cease-fire is not an option in your opinion?
00:37:41>> I think it is an option but down the line.

00:37:51Right now the entire people of israel are united and rolling back this threat.
00:37:56Stopping their missile fire is fine.

00:38:02That will entail bringing down the hamas regime sooner or later.

00:38:31I will tell you a lot of palestinians in gaza homes are suffered for rocket cashes or in fact for rocket launchers probably would want to have some say about that.
00:38:43But they don't.
00:38:46They are really taken over by hamas.
00:38:48A dictatorship.
00:38:50Militant islamic dictatorship supported by iran that is attacking our civilians while hiding behind their civilians.
00:38:57That's a double war crime right there.
00:38:59And I think that the international community now has one choice.
00:39:03It can go back to the usual stuff that says well, both sides are responsible and, you know, let it go with that that's wrong.
00:39:14That would be a great victory for hamas.
00:39:16The greatest victory for them would be to have international condemnation for democracy like israel that is trying to pinpoint the terrorists and is responding though these criminal attacks.
00:39:28If they could establish a moral symmetry between the aggressor and the country that is being attacked, they would have a victory.
00:39:37We shouldn't ge it t them.

00:50:30MultiGrain CHEERIOS.
00:50:31-So trying to watch your weight? -no, why?
00:50:33Nothing. it's just the box.
00:50:35It says it's low in fat.
00:50:36Do I look like I need to watch my weight?
00:50:37 it just says it has 110 calories per serving.
00:50:40Yeah, but there are other reasons why I like it.
00:50:41I know. I know. it's the box.
00:50:43It just says it's made with five whole grains.
00:50:46And that's good, isn't it?
00:50:47Mm-hmm.
00:50:50What else does the box say?
00:50:52" MultiGrain CHEERIOS CEREAL.
00:50:57Because it tastes good.
00:53:11 we have the answer to the aflac trivia question.
00:53:14It is sean hannity.
00:53:16The wner is torrey crocker from McMinnville, oregon.
00:53:22We are back talking about the results of that new federal study.
00:53:28It says that teenagers who pledge to remain virgins until marriage are just as likely to have premarital sex as those who never took that pledge.
00:53:39It also says teens who promised abstinence are less likely to practice protection.
00:53:44Is the waiting until the wedding night a thing of the past?
00:53:48Not really because madeline and donny reyes took purity pledges, and they join us from chicago.
00:53:55Thanks for being here to share your personal story.
00:53:59As we understand it, you both took vows of abstinence.
00:54:04You met when you were 19, and you vowed to stay virgins until you were married.
00:54:11How much of a challenge was that, donny?
00:54:14>> It was -- it was actually a great experience because I was 18, I'm 29 now, but we had a community family, friends that really supported us and encouraged us in that decision, so I mean it was difficult because we had to not put ourselves in certain situations, but basically we just had to set boundaries for ourselves and pretty much from there on it was a nice journey, and we're here, so we're happy.
00:54:46Alisyn: congratulations on that.
00:54:50Adeline, there's a new federal study that shows a majority o teenager w do take the same pledge as you did actually end up breaking it.
00:54:58What wld you say to those scientists today and possibly educators who say well, that means it's not worth it?
00:55:06>> I would say it's definitely worth it.
00:55:10Just personally my husband and i have really seen the benefits of waiting.
00:55:16It's not something that -- it's not a horrible thing, we didn't hurt anybody, we didn't do anything to harm ourselves, and we have really seen the benefits in our marriage.
00:55:27 what are those benefits, marilyn?
00:55:31>> There were a lot of things we didn't have to worry about.
00:55:34We didn't have to worry about getting tested, we didn't have to worry about possible diseases or contracting something that he's had or something that i could possibly have.
00:55:44There were -- just sexually transmitted diseasewise we didn't have to worry about that.
00:55:52Comparing -- because we haven't dealt with that, we wouldn't understand, but I didn't have to worry aut comparing my husband or thinking of past experiences.
00:56:00He's all I know, he's all I've seen.
00:56:04>> I'm all you need, too.
00:56:06>> That's right, he sure is.
00:56:09Alisyn: that is wonderful.
00:56:10It sounds like you're saying for those teenars who may be considering taking the same pledge as you did that it's important to have your community and family's support.
00:56:20>> Absolutely.
00:56:21 madeline and donny reyes, thanks so much for sharing your personal story.
00:56:25We really appreciate it this morning.
00:56:27>> Thank you.
00:56:28>> Thank you, alisyn.
00:56:29 let's go over to brian and dave in the green room.
00:56:32Dave: thank you.
00:56:33Coming up on the show the search has now been called off for that woman who went missing on a cruise bound for miami.
00:56:39We'llave the latest in that investigation.
00:56:42 should you be taxed more for having things like this?
00:56:45Like soda?
00:56:47130 New taxes in new york city alone.
00:56:49Some of which is called a fat tax.
00:56:51Is a fat tax better for you?
00:56:55Dave: this is empty.
00:56:56 are you offended that people are taxing you for just eating poorly?
00:57:13Everyone's talking about them.
00:57:15And now we can actually do something about them.
00:57:16At Wal-Mart, theirprices are unbeatable.
00:57:19Over 300 prescriptionsare just four dollars.
00:57:20Four dollars.Imagine that.
00:57:29] u.k.
00:57:30Recently tested 32 anti-aging face creams from europe, japan, and america -- creams costing $100, $200, up to $700 -- along with olay regenerist micro-sculpting cream, and micro-sculpting cream beat them all.
00:57:45Regenerist micro-sculpting eam was found to keep skin more hydrated and for a longer time than all of them.
00:57:51Along with superior hydration, regenerist micro-sculpting cream features olay's highest concentration of amino peptide b3 complex, to firm and lift sagging skin, even along the jawline.
00:58:03And the accolades continue for other products in the regenerist lineup, with regenerist night awarded best night cream and regenerist daily regenerating serum the "beauty award" winner.
00:58:13..
00:58:15..
00:58:17When olay regenerist micro-sculpting cream is proven to hydrate better, for a longer time, at a fraction of the cost?
00:58:23Go online for a $5 coupon and love the skin you're in.
00:59:38 good morning, everyone, it's december 30, 2008.
00:59:41Here's what's happening right now.
00:59:43New clues about the woman who went overboard on a cruise ship, and her family is giving their take on what happened to jennifer seitz.
00:59:52 caroline kennedy can't protect new york state.
00:59:54That is the claim made by congressman peter king.
00:59:58He will join us live to explain why she should not take hillary clinton's senate seat.
01:00:04 and they say taxes are good for you.
01:00:06Alisyn: who says that?
01:00:07Brian: I'm about to tell you.
01:00:10Watch new york's health commissioner sel you on that.
01:00:16He's peddling something called oxy clean.
01:00:22"Fox & friends," the new year's resolution you will not be able to break.
01:00:27[Captioning made possible by fox news channel] captioned by the national captioning institute org-- " alisyn: good morning, everybody.
01:00:35Thanks so much for tuning in.
01:00:37Great to see you on this almost last day of the year.
01:00:41 that was our first 25-minute solid virgin talk.
01:00:46That wasretty much the whole half-hour.
01:00:50Alisyn: it's fascinating.
01:00:53 abstinence makes the heart grow fonder.
01:00:57 meanwhile, divorce, it's horrible in any economic climate, but it is particularly bad right now because some couples cannot afford to get a divorce.
01:01:07It is so costly that some couples who are unhappy are forced to stay together.
01:01:11What is that like?
01:01:12We're going to talk to people with first-hand knowledge.
01:01:17 are any of them going to reconcile?
01:01:20 that would be the silver lining.
01:01:23 meanwhile let's talk about caroline kennedy.
01:01:25The battlelines seem to be drawing now.
01:01:29I think she thought she'd come out and get a lot of support, at least from the liberal media that we saw support barack obama so well.
01:01:36Instead the "new york times" and her have this contentious relationship.
01:01:39You remember the interview came out, they asked her a question at what point did you decide to throw your name in the hat, and she said did you ever think about writing for a women's magazine?
01:01:50It didn't go how she may have thought.
01:01:52The public apparently feels that caroline kennedy is qualified to be a united states senator.
01:01:5852% Of americans feel she's qualified.
01:02:01Just 42% say that's not.
01:02:03So is she getting a bad rap?
01:02:10 there have been lots of others people who were not classically trained politicians.
01:02:19Geraldine ferraro, she was a congresswoman and went to congress, and she said I think during the campaign my daughter -- because of a class trip in eighth grade knows more about washington than I do.
01:02:30She's of course regretted that later.
01:02:32Hillary clinton was not an elected official.
01:02:35There's been lots of examples.
01:02:36 let's go back out to gaza.
01:02:39You know what the military action has been there.
01:02:44David lee miller live at the border.
01:02:46What's going on?
01:02:47Where are you?
01:02:47>> Are you with us?
01:02:49Brian: I'm with you.
01:02:50>> Brian, what you're looking at right now is -- a couple hundred feet, maybe less, it is the remnants of a rocket attack.
01:03:00We are on the outskirts of the city of throat, and just a few minutes ago two rockets were fired from the gaza border.
01:03:11I'm going to give you a sense of the topography here.
01:03:16It was off in the distance a mile or so.
01:03:19You can still see perhaps the plume of smoke where the rockets were fired.
01:03:24Narrowly missing us.
01:03:30And in past history is any indication it is very possible now we could see israeli air strikes in this immediate area.
01:03:42We've had apache helicopters in the skies throughout most of the morning and israeli war planes streaking over gaza, and nevertheless we've had about a dozen or so rockets that have been fired in our direction.
01:03:58Now, we have some video that we recorded earlier this morning.
01:04:01I want to see if we can roll that tape right now, and il describe for you what you're looking at.
01:04:07Two rockets were fired a few hours ago.
01:04:11They streaks overhead, again, we hit the deck, they hit a home in the -- again, this city, and another one landed in an industrial area.
01:04:21None that we know of was killed.
01:04:24Then a few moments later once again we say apache helicopters appear in the sky, and they fired missiles in a slightly different area from where there was apparently some earlier rocket fire earlier in the day.
01:04:39So to sort of again set the scene, hamas militants continuing to fire, israeli military continuing to hit hamas and the militants in a series of air strikes.
01:04:51This conflict shows no sign of ending soon.
01:04:56 hamas is sayinthat they sent 60 rockets into israel, three people died.
01:05:01Is it like which the israeli air force goes after these -- when the israeli air force goes after the targets, are these mobile targets like we got used to seeing in lebanon where you could park them in between two houses and make them almost undetectible?
01:05:19>> You're right, they're relatively low tech, easy to move, carried around in a ca one of the targets they hit was a car that contained some of these rockets, and also what the militants are doing is they're firing these rockets oftentimes from very crowded areas in gaza, densely populated civilian areas, and then when the israelis locate the launch site, there are civilian casualties, and that's because hamas is using women and children for the most part for shields, and they're purposely firing from these civilian areas.
01:05:56 I want to get back to what just happened to you moments ago, and just help our audience understand.
01:06:01You picked this location from which to report thinking that it was safe, but, in fact, moments ago what happened?
01:06:10>> Off in the distance about three minutes ago we heard what sounded like two launches, kasom rockets being fired.
01:06:20We could see from our vantage point the plume of white smoke.
01:06:24The rockets launched overhead.
01:06:26Gaza is a half a mile behind me.
01:06:28The rockets went in our direction, and we're going to pan over here, and I think the target area is about a hundred feet from where I'm now standing.
01:06:39And we could actually hear the actual projectile flying overhead before we heard an incredibly loud blast.
01:06:47You could almost feel the earth shake.
01:06:49It was that close.
01:06:50A little too close for comfort.
01:06:52Fortunately no one was hurt, but it just underscores how tense things are here, especially along the border, but, again, the range of some of these rocketis as muchs 25 miles.
01:07:03There was one fatality in an israeli city the other day, 25 miles from the border, 650,000 israelis are within the target zone.
01:07:15Hamas has been able to improve their technology in the last few months.
01:07:19 the rockets did not hit a populated area or could you see where they landed, what target they hit?
01:07:26>> The rocket that just landed was in that field behind me.
01:07:33I'll ask my photographer to give you a sense of it.
01:07:36This is an area that is unpopulated, but just a few hundred feet from here, there are homes, people do live, and I'll let you see for yourself, again, the lay of the land here, and you can see how close these rockets came to actually hitting a home and possibly taking lives.
01:07:52 david lee -- >> it's a very small area.
01:07:58Back to you.
01:07:59 we'll stay in contact with you, and we'll check in with you again.
01:08:03Glad you're ok.
01:08:05All right.
01:08:05Seven minutes after the top of the hour.
01:08:07We are going to continue to follow a whole bunch of different stories including a suspicious powder that was found inside a letter that was addressed to president-elect barack obama.
01:08:16It forced two illinois state office buildings into ckdown.
01:08:19Both buildings stayed closed for several hours.
01:08:23Tested showed the powder was harmless.
01:08:27It was mailed from chicago.
01:08:28That's where a suspect was taken into custody.
01:08:30 all she asked for was naked spray tans.
01:08:34And now she's being sued.
01:08:40Heather mills has a lawsuit on her hands from her daughter's nanny.
01:08:44The nanny says she was hired only to look after mills' 5-year-old daughter.
01:08:51Naked spray tans were never in the deal.
01:08:54Dave: no?
01:08:55That wasn't on the application.
01:09:02 bristol palin gave birth to trip easton mitchell johnston on saturday.
01:09:07He weighs 7 pounds 4 ounces.
01:09:09The family says, quote, the baby is fine, and bristol is doing well.
01:09:14Bristol and the child's father plan to get married next year.
01:09:19Some online holiday shopping results are in.
01:09:22There's a report on retail satisfaction where they took into account the price and variety of items as well as the functionality of the web site, and the big winners are com who last year was number one, slips to com and apple.com are on the list.
01:09:45Those are your headlines.
01:09:46 amazon had a big holiday season, one of the few actual winners this season let's talk about a winner of the bailout and public enemy number 1.
01:09:55His name, peter krause.
01:09:57He was an executive at merrill lynch.
01:10:00He worked there for three months.
01:10:08He made $25 million.
01:10:12What did peter krause do that might disgust america?
01:10:15 he bought a massive, beautiful apartment for $37 million, and here's some pictures of it fully equipped, beautiful chandeliers, all of this -- remember, with bailout money.
01:10:28I mean this is the type of thing that was supposed to stop once the public caught wind of how these companies had been conducting their business.
01:10:38These are the types of golden parachutes that we weren't supposed to see anymore, but yet we are seeing it because there was a loophole, and he got paid go his company got bought which it did.
01:10:49 it wasn't a loophole, h put it in his contract.
01:10:52When things are going well, he said I'll work for merrill lynch, but he said I want some payoff if they get some money.
01:11:06Bank of america and merrill lynch lost their jobs whichre not million dollar jobs.
01:11:13These are every day, sometimes executive assistant jobs, but these guys don't work, and they got a huge payoff.
01:11:19John thain who helped engineer this deal with merrill lynch and bank of america, he the other day asked the board for $10 million because he said I think I deserve it, I was able to sav the company.
01:11:33Wait a second, you were the ceo of merrill lynch who is no longer in existence.
01:11:42It shows they're very tone deaf to say the least.
01:11:47 let's hope that 2008 is the last year that things like this go on.
01:11:50This is the type of thing that got us into this mess, this incredible disparity of people who ran failing companies and needed our bailout money getting this kind of -- their walking papers with a massive bonus.
01:12:06 I am all for you make zillions of dollars.
01:12:16You can't leave out certain losses, and you've got to be judged over three years or five years, not one year.
01:12:23We're in a rainy period right now.
01:12:25 I'm all for people making tons of money also.
01:12:27How about doctors that save people lives?
01:12:30Not people who work for three months at a failed company where people are laid off.
01:12:35 social workers should be getting paid more.
01:12:38We can't restructure payments.
01:12:40Alisyn: maybe we ll.
01:12:42 new year's resolution for the government, oversight.
01:12:46Brian: those are my notes.
01:12:49I understand you're angry, but don't overreact.
01:12:53Dave: move over, caroline.
01:12:55Peter king might want toake over for hillary clinton in 2010.
01:13:00He tells us why he's much better for new yorkers.
01:13:04Plus they're pushing what brian calls -- ts is too smart of a plan for new yorkers to pa up.
01:13:11Here's to governor patterson's proposal to reduce obesity, and HERE'S TO YOUR HEALTH.BúwúW as you've probably heard, caroline kennedy says that she is the best one to represent new york in the senate after hillary clinton steps down, but our next guest says she doesn't have the chops to protect the number 1 terrorist target in the world, and he's thinkingbout running against her in 2010.
01:15:48 congressman peter king is with us, a familiar voice, especiallyn homeland security issues.
01:15:54Are you intimidated by the kennedy power house,oo intimidated to run against ler?
01:16:00>> It's not intidating.
01:16:02I know the kennedys pretty well.
01:16:05I don't know caroline, but i know ted and joe and jean.
01:16:11They're a formidable force.
01:16:12They can raise money, they he the medi behind them, but the akes are too high for new york, we have to have someone who knows what's going on, that has life experience that prepares them for that job.
01:16:23 you're planning to run against caroline in 2010.
01:16:26She hasn't been appointed yet.
01:16:28>> I was afraid -- last month, three weeks ago whether the name came out, she was being core nated already, and I didn't want to be left at the starting date.
01:16:40I believe that caroline kennedy is not prepared to be the united states senator from new york.
01:16:45 maybe she'd be the best person for you to run against.
01:16:48>> In some ways, yes, because it would focus people on the race.
01:16:56People may just vote the party line, but if she's out there, there's going to be a lot of coverage, a lot of attention focused, and it gives me the chance to show her weaknesses, and as brian knows, the truly great guy I am.
01:17:12 you must have been surprised that the "new york post" interview where not a problem, "new york daily news," not a problem.
01:17:20The "new york times", she ends up shutting down the interview and saying why don't you write for a women's team?
01:17:26What do you think happened here?
01:17:28>> Let me say one thing in defense of caroline kennedy, maybe the only time in this campaign, there's a real elitism and arrogance on the part of " I think they resented that they were lumped in with the "new york post" and the "new rk " I think she could have gen better answers and more versed on the issues, but I think "the times" went out of her ways to make her look bad.
01:17:57And I have no use for that paper, it's a blame america first newspaper, but she did ok in "the daily news" and the "post," but I don't thi it showed her to be qualified, but the really scornful, condescending tone with the "new york times", and it rubd me the wrong ways.
01:18:17And for somebody who's had their own fights with the "new york times" -- brian: every day.
01:18:24 let's pretend you're not waiting until 2010.
01:18:27What would you say today about your qualifications vsus caroline?
01:18:31>> I grew up in working class neighborhoods, my father was a cop, I worked my way through college, went to high school and college in brooklyn, worked on tenth avenue, went to law school, raised a family, lived in the same home for 40 years, and I've been in congress 14 years.
01:18:49I've been with the troops in iraq and bosnia.
01:18:52I understand these issues.
01:18:54I've been fighting for new york in my whole life.
01:18:56She's never held a job.
01:18:57 I don't know how you get all of that on one page.
01:19:03My last question to you, rudy guiliani is for your candidacy.
01:19:09>> Rudy and I have had several meetings, we've known each over for 40 years, and his support means a lot to me.
01:19:17Happy new year.
01:19:18Alisyn: all right.
01:19:19Take a look at this.
01:19:20This is a fight club where kids and adults beat the heck out of each other, but they're not mad, they're having fun.
01:19:28 this is called a cleansing.
01:19:31It's a cathartic experience.
01:22:52 this is a "fox news " welcome back, everyone.
01:22:55We want to show you some incredible new video that we've just gotten into our newsroom.
01:23:02Israeli air strikes continue to pound all sorts of targets in gaza as you can see there and here as they try to destroy the base of operations for the pterrorist group hamas.
01:23:13All right.
01:23:14Moving on, recycling used to be encouraged, b the world's economic mess has crippled the recycling business.
01:23:22Demand has dropped particularly in china, and the market price pfor recyclables is too low to turn a profit or worse no buyers can be foundo now scrap alers are stockpiling cushside collections like never before.
01:23:40 president-elect barack obama had hinted he'd hold off on t hikes, but didis top aide s not so fast.
01:23:47>> On the bush tax cuts for the very wealthest americans, and it's something wean't afford on moving forward, and if it's something that expires or whether we repeal it later we'll determine later, but it's going to go, it has to go.
01:24:09 joining us is the coauthor of "the end of prosperity.
01:24:14How taxes will doom the economy " how are you?
01:24:19>> I'm great.
01:24:20 there is some good news fothe american public.
01:24:22It appears those middle last tax cuts are going to happen fairly soon, aren't they?
01:24:27>> They will.
01:24:28I think you can expect those -- one of the first acts of the new congress, I think, will be to enact a middle class tax cut.
01:24:37But this is in the context of what the obama folks are saying this could be a 750 billion to $1 trillion package.
01:24:44The thing that was interesting about what david axelrod was sang is he was saying we can't afford the bush tax cuts.
01:24:51Well, wait a minute,hey're going to spend $1 trillion.

01:30:29It was a terrible morning for a small town in eastern british columbia.
01:30:3311 Men went out for a snowmobile ride and two avalanches struck killing at least seven of the men, and carolyn jarvis is here.
01:30:48How did three of the men get out of the avalanche?
01:30:51>> A really miraculous situation.

01:30:57This morning it's been confirmed there may have been as many as four.
01:31:00The first one came down and washed over a group of seven.
01:31:03They cried out for help, their friends came out to their rescue, and as they were digging out their friends, another avalanche came down.
01:31:12Two of the men were able to free themselves from under the heavyweight of the snow.
01:31:17Many that were buried several meters underneath.
01:31:20Two of them men found thanks to avalanche beacons a third friend.
01:31:25They decided it was too dangerous, they walked out.
01:31:27Were it not for their avalanche gear.
01:31:31One of the men had a satellite device.
01:31:33He sent a message to texas, and texas notified searc and rescue crews here, and they flew in a helicopter, and those how they found those three survivors.

01:32:07In fact, most people in town knew all eight of these men who disappeared in the back country.
01:32:12It's hit this town extremely hard.
01:32:15Last night there was a candlelight vigil, and hundreds of peoe turned out despite freezing temperatures.
01:32:23They recited the lord's prayer.
01:32:25The community had an understanding of the span of events because they went through what happened, and they turned through each other and said let's give each other a hug, and tears were shed, but it's very telling, this very small town has come together, and that's where they're finding the strength.
01:32:42 I know a lot of times when people venture into these parts of the mountains, it's -- parts that they want people to stay away from.
