00:01:20But all of us fall into - you say - one of three types of garage clutter,ers.
00:01:28>> Once we start talking about garages, people freak out a bit.
00:01:31Three kinds of clutter I see save the world clutter.
00:01:36>> Save the world clutter?
00:01:37>> I can't let it go, if I do it will damage the environment, it will cause huge problems so I have to save the world.
00:01:45#2 I call garage sale clutter.
00:01:47I go to garage sales I buy stuff and bring it home and put it in my garage.
00:01:52>> I may be gelt of that.
00:01:54-- Guilty of that.
00:01:56Where in new york I don't have a garage.
00:01:58>> I just store it.
00:01:59..
00:02:01Well, I will get to this, i will save it because I will "use this later".
00:02:06Stuff for the kids, computer monitors, toyce.
00:02:10-- Toys.
00:02:11>> No matter what it is.
00:02:12>> It will be useful.
00:02:13>> Look at the nodding heads.
00:02:16None of these is a problem unless it fills the garage to the point you can't use it, or it stresses you out and you start fighting.
00:02:24We have people in those categories that we will give a hand to.
00:02:29>> This is like the junk drawer on steroids, then?
00:02:33>> It's a black hole of clutter.
00:02:35You know, you throw stuff in: I will get to it eventually, now I can't park the car, and I can't even get in there and then oh, my god, two of my children are missing; they are in the garage?
00:02:49>> And we do this to the guest room.
00:02:52>> If you can close the door, the heads are nodding off the shoulders.
00:02:58>> If you can close close the door on something, it's out of sight, out of mind.
00:03:04>> Right.
00:03:04>> And three different viewers are getting help, one that represents each of these problems, when it comes to us cluttering our garages.

00:03:27>> What I need is a garage overhaul!
00:03:30>> When I walk into the garage I feel overwhelmed.
00:03:34I run my business out of my garage, so it's filled with things they work with.
00:03:39And I happen to be the environmentalist in the neighborhood, I don't like to see things go to the landfill that could be used again, I do recycling but it's taking over my life!
00:03:51>> I tried many times to get this under control, and it just doesn't seem to work.
00:03:56>> Today we are here at michelle's home, and we will get everything out of the garage and do a complete makeover for her.
00:04:03>> Hi, peter, welcome to my home!
00:04:07>> There are a few simple things they want to show to michelle today.
00:04:11#1, You need to keep flat surface clear.
00:04:14The moment you let things start to move around on the floor, what I call "floor creep" the clutter takes over and you lost the battle.
00:04:23First up we will take everything in the garage and we will push it out into the driveway.
00:04:28Bring things out and put them in like piles.
00:04:30Ready to start >> yeah.
00:04:32♪ ♪
00:04:33>> an overhead projector?
00:04:36Welcome to 1918old.
00:04:41>> Oh, my goodness.
00:04:43[ Laughter ] ♪ ♪
00:04:46>> what's your favorite charity?
00:04:49>> Habitat for humanity.
00:04:51>> Great stuff for them to use for house building and house renovations.
00:04:55>> Seeing the open space now, what a relief!
00:04:57>> Here's what we are now going to do.
00:05:00>> We are going to go through every pile here.
00:05:02>> Right.
00:05:03>> And we are only going to leave the things here that you are going to keep!

00:05:21>> so, we are putting all of the stuff that's more seasonal stuff - >> right.
00:05:27>> Up high.
00:05:27By using a great sturdy shelving system.
00:05:30It really opens up the space and lets you see what you have.
00:05:34This is like walking down the aisle of a department store here.
00:05:39Another great tip is think in terms of zones.
00:05:41All sports equipment here.
00:05:43All of the gardening stuff here.
00:05:45>> Consider using clear bins wherever possible so you can easily see what's in the bins.
00:05:51Everything you have is sealed in containers, no dust gets into the things you own and what I have done is made different colored labels for the different items.
00:06:011 You can quickly and easily see what you have.
00:06:062) The color coding let's you see where like-things belong.
00:06:12>> Garages can be challenging spaces.
00:06:14Especially with these nooks and crannies that many garages have.
00:06:18So, be creative.
00:06:20Get hooks or hangers and hang things up on the wall!
00:06:23Here, we have the gladtor system.
00:06:26Our friends at lowes, have given us.
00:06:34All of these click in.
00:06:35You put up the wall unit and a ton of things can work in here!

00:06:46so, you now have a garage that's completely open, and breathes and works for you.

00:07:50>> I should mention that the reason you have all of those supplies is because you work with schools throughout new jersey, that's where the fish was gonna go, right?
00:08:03[ Applause ] I do environmental programs for children.
00:08:06I teach them how to take care of the world, but unfortunately I was crushing under my own stuff, I was saving the neighborhood and everything, and we teach kids about the oceans and how to take care of them.
00:08:18Peter wanted to gerid of borris, but no.
00:08:21>> He tried to get rid of my magnets.

00:08:32>> When you are organized you can do more good, you are not - as you said - buried yourself.
00:08:38And you don't feel so under.
00:08:39Now terry can spend a few more nights over ?
00:08:43[ Applause ] >> so, all in all, in all honesty here, we feel overwhelmed when cleaning out the garage if it's a drawer, your kitchen or closet, how do you get motivated to make the first step.
00:09:01>> Two things that help.
00:09:03You have seen on the show mow we have the before -- how we have the before photos.
00:09:07Take a before shot.
00:09:09>> That's a great inspiration.
00:09:11>> Because once you get into it, your energy starts lag a bit.
00:09:15Look at the before shot, and think, wow, I have cleared that side of the room, wow, i have gotten rid of the boxes.
00:09:21And do the after shot, you can show all of your friends on facebook, victory!
00:09:26♪ ♪
00:09:26>> so, take a before and after shot.
00:09:28#2, Start with what's visible!
00:09:32Just do the things, you know, declutter the counters and flat surfaces.
00:09:38>> Don't bite off more than you can chew on the first step right .
00:09:43>> Exact three.
00:09:43>> Once you get the clear surfaces done, get into nooks and crannies and drawers and cup.
00:09:52>> I lost -- love the before and after.
00:09:56That's it.

00:10:19>> We are walking over here.
00:10:20>> This side first, this side first.
00:10:22>> I am staying safely in this zone.
00:10:24So, what is the issue?
00:10:26>> Well, I love going yard sales and garage sales and looking for treasures.
00:10:31I feel another person's junk is my treasure.
00:10:34>> I do this, too.
00:10:36Everybody loves a bargain.
00:10:38You see something for a few dollars here or there, you think, it's great, I have to have it, but where do you put it?
00:10:44>> I bring it home, I think i can use it in the house, then I don't have a place for it, so I put it in the garage and like peter said, I close the door and I don't see it for quite a now I am stressed out on the garage.
00:10:59>> Here are tips for you: Both of you revealed what the problem is.
00:11:03Right at the start when you were having a chat.
00:11:05I go looking for "treasures".
00:11:09I look for bargains.
00:11:11You must never do that again.
00:11:12[ Laughter ] >> you still go hunting, I am not saying don't do it, but you have to be specific.
00:11:18Go looking for a bowl to go near your front door for the keys or walat.
00:11:24Or a frame for family photos.
00:11:28Not just stuff because there's a garage sale.
00:11:32Only something specific.
00:11:34Go hunting for the specific item.
00:11:35Trust me, there are a million treasures and a million items and bargains.
00:11:41And #2, whenever you look at something you will buy, there are three tests you have to you have to commit to this.
00:11:50The first test is the kid test.
00:11:52For example, we were looking at this item.
00:11:54If you have children or not, it doesn't matter.
00:11:57The kid test: is it sturdy?
00:12:01>> Gotcha.
00:12:01>> If there are kids kicking it around the house, will it survive?
00:12:04>> Are you gonna survive a garage sale if you start kicking that lady's stuff?
00:12:11[ Laughter ] >> maybe I am making a strong point here, but will the joist hold, is the surface durable.
00:12:18The whole thing.
00:12:19In this case, the mechanism on this, it won't turn, it doesn't pass the kid test.
00:12:26It gets left at the garage sale.
00:12:29#2, Which none of you will like.
00:12:32The smell test.
00:12:33[ Audience oohs ] >> I know.
00:12:36The reason you do this -- [sniffs] is because when you buy stuff as a yard sale, it's usually outside, fresh air.
00:12:46But you take a good whiff of it, because that will tellue - >> look at your face.
00:12:52[ Laughter ] >> do you whiff one upon of your finds?
00:12:55[ Laughter ] >> she sniffs.
00:12:56She does that one.
00:12:57>> Once in a while I do.
00:12:58>> Take a whiff.
00:13:00What does it smell like?
00:13:02>> Mm-hmm., a little musty.
00:13:04Like socks.
00:13:04>> Yeah.
00:13:05>> So, straightaway, that will teltt you whether or not -- tell you whether or not someone in the house has been smoking or there's water damage or mildew, or worst of all, whether or not there are pets!
00:13:18I am just saying.
00:13:19I am just saying.
00:13:21[ Laughter ] >> and that's the last thing you want in your house.
00:13:24And the third test is what i called decorative or quality test.
00:13:29A lot of wood these days is really cheap.
00:13:32So what you do is you turn a chair or piece of furniture over, and then you rub your finger nail on the wood.
00:13:39It leaves a mark.
00:13:40If it leaves a dent in the wood it means the wood is not that good; >> gotcha.
00:13:46>> Don't buy it.
00:13:47It's an inferior product.
00:13:50This passes the kid test, doesn't pass the smell test or the quality or decorative, no!
00:13:57>> Excellent I thought I had a treasure there.
00:14:00>> >> almost, almost.
00:14:01>> You would have taken one of the two of those?
00:14:04>> Good, we saved you a couple of bucks then.
00:14:06>> I love that, I love the advice.
00:14:09Go out specifically looking for something.
00:14:10I think that's the best part.
00:14:13>> That would be the hard part.
00:14:15>> Sound like you can do that?
00:14:18>> I am gonna try.
00:14:22>> Cool.
00:14:22>> And last but not least, lydia, one of our viewers, she save is for later, clutterer.

00:14:41>> Okay, so, tell us about your clutter.
00:14:45>> Um, my clutter started about 5 years ago after my son was born; and we stopped using things and I would put it in the garage for later, i thought, then I will get rid of it.
00:14:56Boxes from toys and boxes from buy at bulk stores or boxing multiply.
00:15:01>> Yeah, yeah.
00:15:03>> Yeah.
00:15:05It's embarrassing.
00:15:05[ Laughter ] ..
00:15:09I try to separate it, but i don't know how to get it over my garage.
00:15:14>> Overwhelming again.
00:15:14>> It ties in together.
00:15:16Two simple tips you can use today when you go home.
00:15:19#1, Before you go out in the garage, make a list of everything you can remember that is in the garage.
00:15:26Really a specific list.
00:15:27>> When you get out in the garage and it's like, where did these hockey sticks come from.
00:15:32Oh, where did this pair of sweat pants from 1982 come from?
00:15:36...
00:15:38Chances are, you just don't so, that will really help you get a gauge of what should stay and what should go.
00:15:45>> #2, Motivation.
00:15:47>> Do you find you can't get started.
00:15:50>> Definitely.
00:15:51>> Use music as a motivator.
00:15:53Choose 5 songs, 15 minutes.
00:15:56That's all you ed to do at any time.
00:15:59Put the 5 songs on, let them play, whether it's something like classical music.

00:16:07>> that's what you are going to a wedding in the garage.
00:16:10[ Laughter ] >> or maybe you are a hipster, like rachael ray, and you want to use the cringe.

00:21:10>> Hi, how you doing?
00:21:11>> Hi, my question is, i recently got a new oven, it has convection bake and regular bake, and everyone's like, use convection bake to bake your stuff.
00:21:21Is one better than the other?
00:21:23>> Sometimes when I bake, you know, like my home oven, i will do half and half.
00:21:28Now, the convection bake blows air.
00:21:31So your tops will come a lot darker.
00:21:35>> Okay.
00:21:36>> You always cut your baking down a little bit.
00:21:39And your temperature, because I feel that it definitely makes it bake faster and a little hotter by using convection bake.
00:21:47I am old-fashioned.
00:21:48If I am baking at home, when i tested my cookbooks I did it on regular bake.
00:21:54>> Regular bake.
00:21:56Old-fashioned.
00:21:56>> When I put it on convection bake it lowers the temperature for me automatically.
00:22:01>> Then you got a fancy oven there.

00:22:11>> Hi, so I like to make brownies, but sometimes the outside is overcooked while the inside is undercooked.
00:22:18What can I do to prevent that?
00:22:20>> Okay, um, what shelve are you baking on in the oven?
00:22:26Shelf?
00:22:26>> The second one.
00:22:27>> Okay, I learned from using a regular at help home oven, you gotta bake in the middle, your second shelf, is that the middle?
00:22:38And maybe lower your temperature a bit.
00:22:40What's the temperature you are baking it at.
00:22:43350.
00:22:44>> Usually 350.
00:22:45>> I would get a thermometer.
00:22:47>> You can buy calibrators at the kitchen supply store.
00:22:51Even larger grocery storse, take the -- stores.
00:22:56Take the temperature, if you are baking at 325 but it's only baking at 300, your turkey will be undercooked.
00:23:05And hot spots, the baking pan, it it may be thinner or warn through in some areas, wouldn't you say, also?
00:23:14>> That could be, it's definitely a factor.
00:23:20>> Maybe drop the oven 15 degrees and see what happens.
00:23:24>> Thank you.

00:23:29>> I learned to make pies with my daughters.
00:23:33What crust is better, pastry or graham cracker crust?
00:23:37>> I think it's a matter of what the pie is, and personal preference.
00:23:41You know, um, there's nobody saying you can't make an apple pie with graham cracker crust.
00:23:49Traditionally, it's done with a pie crust.
00:23:51But it's, what does the recipe call for, and after that, do you want to experiment with something, and try to make your own, or doing different pie crusts?
00:24:01So, you know, I think sometimes you know, for me, graham cracker crust is heard because I am really good way rolling pin.
00:24:10But for somebody at home, i would imagine that graham cracker crust is easiier, because you push it into place.
00:24:20>> The kids like to mush up the graham crackers.
00:24:25>> So it's fun.
00:24:26Yeah.
00:24:27>> Hi tbuddy, how are you?
00:24:29>> Good, thanks.
00:24:30I was trying to make my mom's apple crumb cake, and it calls for baking soda, I didn't have it, it seemed denser than hers.
00:24:40And I am not sure what the baking soda does, can you leave it out or replace it with something else?
00:24:45>> You can't replace it with anything else.
00:24:48Okay?
00:24:50>> Okay.
00:24:50>> And you can't leave it out.

00:24:54This is not, you know, if you leave out the vanilla, okay, it's not as bad, because fact that it's a flavor.
00:25:03Baking soda adds, you know, it helps the cake drop a little.
00:25:08And it's definitely adding it's one of those things that you cannot play around with.

00:38:58So, what's for dinner tonight is actually a fantastic side dish or starter, as well.
00:39:04Who here likes double-stuffed potatoes?
00:39:08Baked potatoes.
00:39:09You get the fixings and put them back in.
00:39:11This is that kinda concept, but I am gonna make a double-stuffed butternut squashed.
00:39:18With three cheeses and bacon!
00:39:21[ Audience oohs ] mm-hmm.
00:39:22Delicious!
00:39:23>> If you want to make it vegetarian, omit the bacon, equally delicious.
00:39:27And it's so easy to make.
00:39:29This is a really hearty, mostly vegetable based dinner.
00:39:33Everybody gets their own one half of a squash, if you are doing ente, side or you cut it up into portions for a side dish.
00:39:44For each adult portion you want half of a medium butternut squash.
00:39:49The oven is hot at 375.
00:39:51I like mine with the works and bacon in mine.
00:39:53I have arranged for several slices of bacon on a is slotted broiler pan.
00:40:01Always bake it on a slotted pan.
00:40:02If you don't have the slotted pan that came with your stove, and you haven't seen it in years make one by taking a metal cooling rack for cookies and put it inside a rimmed baking sheet, so we will bake our bacon.
00:40:16And we will par bake the squash for 30 minutes.
00:40:21Don't take it all the way, just tender enough to get the flesh out and away from the skin.
00:40:26Then we will combine the flesh of the squash, with our three cheeses, ricotta, cheddar, and parmesano, fresh herbs, and put it back into the shell.
00:40:37I know, crazy!
00:40:38The bacon in there, delicious i.
00:40:44>> Squash gets salt, pepper and nutmeg.

00:46:04I am making a side dish into an enttre, and it's based on a double stuffed baked potato with the works.
00:46:12But I am using a butternut squash, I am serving as an entre, each half of a medium-sized squash is what i portion for an adult portion.
00:46:25I roast for 25-30 minutes, tender but not cooked all the way.
00:46:30Let them cool, it was dressed with olive oil, salt, pepper and nutmeg.
00:46:34When it's cool enough to handle, scoop it out and leave a boat.
00:46:39Leave a layer of flesh for stability.
00:46:41Put the remainder of the squash into a mixing bowl.
00:46:44And then I like to add in a combination of thyme, and sage.
00:46:49Sage with squash is just, it's a classic, so delicious.
00:46:51I like a bit of the citrusy thyme in there, as well.
00:46:57Sage and thyme, and I like mine with the works like with a double stuffed potato, i like bacon, I live next to the hickory house in warrensburg.
00:47:09I love their smoky bacon.
00:47:11A dozen slices of bacon, i will pult in half and -- put in half, crispy baked bacon.
00:47:19If you want this to be vegetarian, omit the bacon, equally delicious because it fresh ricotta cheese, a cup of that for two squash or 4 halves.
00:47:31Mm-hmm.
00:47:32And a handful of parmigiano regiano.
00:47:38>> And I use yellow cheddar because of the squash.
00:47:44I mash it together and re-stuff the boats.
00:47:47Once you get the boats filled take more, a little extra sprinkle of the cheddar and parm, and put it across the top so it's nice and brown and bubbly.
00:47:56>> It comes out of the oven, I garnish with chopped, fresh scallion orb chives.
00:48:02-- Or chives and reserved bits of bacon.

00:51:37>> I see some of the progress on the work the and we are going to talk to you about some of the things we completed in the last 24 hours and some of the things we will be working on.
00:51:49>> Our power plants team is finishing up some of the on team work right now.
00:51:55>> They identified that there was a post crash, fire on the inboard section of the number 2 engine, that is the right engine.
00:52:09An oil tank had ruptured and leaked fuel onto the hot engine.
00:52:18>> They identified that both thrust reversers were stowed and it is packs matily.
00:52:281750 Pounds: >> Our aircraft performance team is working on completing the documentation, particularly the toll station or the gps documentation.
00:52:43They are working on completing the total documentation of the crash site.
00:52:50And this includes from the seawall down the runway up to the aircraft.
00:52:58They expect to finish that today.
00:53:03Air traffic control group is looking at radar data plus altitudes.
00:53:10And flied scope.
00:53:10>> They have can requested additional information from faa, air traffic control.
00:53:17Requested data tore all triple seven approaches to q eight left within the last few days.
00:53:26>> They have also requested, that the faa provide information on all of the go arounds that have occurred on the psalm runway since june.
00:53:36>> They are asking for this information.
00:53:40Because it provides us with some baseline information and they can identify trend.
00:53:47Our structures and our systems group worked on some documentation of the cockpit.
00:53:55And they made the following direct observation with respect to switch positions.
00:54:02And information that is specific evidence in the cockpit.
00:54:07They found that the flight director was on for the right feet and off for the left feet.
00:54:17The audio throttles were armed.
00:54:22All three fire handles were extended.
00:54:27And these would, these would activate bottles.
00:54:33To put out flyers.
00:54:34Because the crew is concerned there could be a fire if they have this crash.
00:54:38And in both engines and the apu.
00:54:41>> They saw this was extended for all three locations.
00:54:50Flaps were set to 30.
00:54:56The speed break lever was down which indicate it was not being used.
00:55:03>> Our survival factors team yesterday was the first day to go inside the aircraft.
00:55:09They are removing overhead bags and personal affects in the aircraft and working to document things inside the cabin.
00:55:18>> Respects interest are efforts to sift through the burned wreckage in the science of the aircraft that masks 10 sieve fire damage.
00:55:29And they are documenting the seating compartment.
00:55:33Over 300 seats on the aircraft and our team is working to document them for survivability analysis purposes.
00:55:42We are working to obtain a passenger manifest, to understand seating locations for the passengers and we want to use this to help identify fatalities and injuries.
00:55:56And seating positions.
00:55:58And specific seating positions.
00:55:59And injuries or the lack there.
00:56:06They have rehe moved all of the slides from the aircraft.
00:56:11There were eight doors and eight slides that were removed.
00:56:19One of the doors, four left, was outside of the aircraft on the ground at the crash site.
00:56:26While the other seven doors are attached to the air frame.
00:56:33Out at the accident site, I had an opportunity to walk the entire debris field from the aircraft to the seawall and back.

00:10:38You see something for a few dollars here or there, you think, it's great, I have to have it, but where do you put it?
00:10:44>> I bring it home, I think i can use it in the house, then I don't have a place for it, so I put it in the garage and like peter said, I close the door and I don't see it for quite a now I am stressed out on the garage.
00:10:59>> Here are tips for you: Both of you revealed what the problem is.
00:11:04Ri the start when you were having a chat.
00:11:06I go looking for "treasures".
00:11:10I look for bargains.
00:11:11You must never do that again.
00:11:13[ Laughter ] >> you still go hunting, I am not saying don't do it, but you have to be specific.
00:11:19Go looking for a bowl to go near your front door for the keys or walat.
00:11:25Or a frame for family photos.
00:11:29Not just stuff because there's a garage sale.
00:11:32Only something specific.
00:11:34Go hunting for the specific item.
00:11:36Trust me, there are a million treasures and a million items and bargains.
00:11:42And #2, whenever you look at something you will buy, there are three tests you have to you have to commit to this.
00:11:51The first test is the kid test.
00:11:53For example, we were looking at this item.
00:11:55If you have children or not, it doesn't matter.
00:11:58The kid test: is it sturdy?
00:12:01>> Gotcha.
00:12:02>> If there are kids kicking it around the house, will it survive?
00:12:05>> Are you gonna survive a garage sale if you start kicking that lady's stuff?
00:12:12[ Laughter ] >> maybe I am making a strong point here, but will the joist hold, is the surface durable.
00:12:19The whole thing.
00:12:19In this case, the mechanism on this, it won't turn, it doesn't pass the kid test.
00:12:27It gets left at the garage sale.
00:12:30#2, Which none of you will like.
00:12:33The smell test.
00:12:34[ Audience oohs ] >> I know.
00:12:37The reason you do this -- [sniffs] is because when you buy stuff as a yard sale, it's usually outside, fresh air.
00:12:47But you take a good whiff of it, because that will tellue - >> look at your face.
00:12:52[ Laughter ] >> do you whiff upon of your finds?
00:12:55[ Laughter ] >> she sniffs.
00:12:56She does that one.
00:12:57>> Once in a while I do.
00:12:59>> Take a whiff.
00:13:00What does it smell like?
00:13:02>> Mm-hmm., a little musty.
00:13:04Like socks.
00:13:05>> Yeah.
00:13:05>> So, straightaway, that will teltt you whether or not -- tell you whether or not someone in the house has been smoking or there's water damage or mildew, or worst of all, whether or not there are pets!
00:13:19I am just saying.

00:13:22[ Laughter ] >> and that's the last thing you want in your house.
00:13:25And the third test is what i called decorative or quality test.
00:13:30A lot of wood these days is really cheap.
00:13:32So what you do is you turn a chair or piece of furniture over, and then you rub your finger nail on the wood.
00:13:39It leaves a mark.
00:13:41If it leaves a dent in the wood it means the wood is not that good; >> gotcha.
00:13:46>> Don't buy it.
00:13:48It's an inferior product.
00:13:50This passes the kid test, doesn't pass the smell test or the quality or decorative, no!
00:13:58>> Excellent I thought I had a treasure there.

00:15:33Oh, where did this pair of sweat pants from 1982 come from?
00:15:37...
00:15:39Chances are, you just don't so, that will really help you get a gauge of what should stay and what should go.

00:15:48>> Do you find you can't get started.
00:15:51>> Definitely.
00:15:51>> Use music as a motivator.
00:15:54Choose 5 songs, 15 minutes.
00:15:57That's all you need to do at any time.
00:15:59Put the 5 songs on, let them play, whether it's something like classical music.

00:22:59Now, the convection bake blows air.
00:23:02So your tops will come a lot darker.

00:23:10And your temperature, because I feel that it definitely makes it bake faster and a little hotter by using convection bake.

00:23:19If I am baking at home, when i tested my cookbooks I did it on regular bake.

00:24:16>> I would get a thermometer.
00:24:19>> You can buy calibrators at the kitchen supply store.
00:24:22Even larger grocery storse, take the -- stores.
00:24:27Take the temperature, if you are baking at 325 but it's only baking at 300, your turkey will be undercooked.
00:24:36And hot spots, the baking pan, it it may be thinner or warn through in some areas, wouldn't you say, also?
00:24:45>> That could be, it's definitely a factor.
00:24:51>> Maybe drop the oven 15 degrees and see what happens.

00:25:20Traditionally, it's done with a pie crust.
00:25:22But it's, what does the recipe call for, and after that, do you want to experiment with something, and try to make your own, or doing different pie crusts?
00:25:32So, you know, I think sometimes you know, for me, graham cracker crust is heard because I am really good way rolling pin.
00:25:41But for somebody at home, i would imagine that graham cracker crust is easiier, because you push it into place.
00:25:51>> The kids like to mush up the graham crackers.

00:42:32So, what's for dinner tonight is actually a fantastic side dish or starter, as well.
00:42:37Who here likes double-stuffed potatoes?
00:42:42Baked potatoes.
00:42:42You get the fixings and put them back in.
00:42:45This is that kinda concept, but I am gonna make a double-stuffed butternut squashed.
00:42:52With three cheeses and bacon!
00:42:54[ Audience oohs ] mm-hmm.
00:42:56Delicious!
00:42:56>> If you want to make it vegetarian, omit the bacon, equally delicious.
00:43:01And it's so easy to make.
00:43:03This is a really hearty, mostly vegetable based dinner.
00:43:07Everybody gets their own one half of a squash, if you are doing entre, side or you cut it up into portions for a side dish.
00:43:18For each adult portion you want half of a medium butternut squash.
00:43:23The oven is hot at 375.
00:43:24I like mine with the works and bacon in mine.
00:43:27I have arranged for several slices of bacon on a is slotted broiler pan.
00:43:34Always bake it on a slotted pan.
00:43:36If you don't have the slotted pan that came with your stove, and you haven't seen it in years make one by taking a metal cooling rack for cookies and put it inside a rimmed baking sheet, so we will bake our bacon.
00:43:50And we will par bake the squash for 30 minutes.
00:43:54Don't take it all the way, just tender enough to get the flesh out and away from the skin.
00:44:00Then we will combine the flesh of the squash, with our three cheeses, ricotta, cheddar, and parmesano, fresh herbs, and put it back into the shell.
00:44:10I know, crazy!
00:44:12The bacon in there, delicious i.
00:44:18>> Squash gets salt, pepper and nutmeg.

00:45:22A lesson I didn't learn until I was 40 or so myself, is, you must exercise.

00:49:39I am making a side dish into an enttre, and it's based on a double stuffed baked potato with the works.
00:49:48But I am using a butternut squash, I am serving as an entre, each half of a medium-sized squash is what i portion for an adult portion.
00:50:00I roast for 25-30 minutes, tender but not cooked all the way.
00:50:05Let them cool, it was dressed with olive oil, salt, pepper and nutmeg.
00:50:10When it's cool enough to handle, scoop it out and leave a boat.
00:50:14Leave a layer of flesh for stability.
00:50:16Put the remainder of the squash into a mixing bowl.
00:50:19And then I like to add in a combination of thyme, and sage.
00:50:24Sage with squash is just, it's a classic, so delicious.
00:50:27I like a bit of the citrusy thyme in there, as well.
00:50:32Sage and thyme, and I like mine with the works like with a double stuffed potato, i like bacon, I live next to the hickory house in warrensburg.
00:50:45I love their smoky bacon.
00:50:46A dozen slices of bacon, i will pult in half and -- put in half, crispy baked bacon.
00:50:54If you want this to be vegetarian, omit the bacon, equally delicious because it fresh ricotta cheese, a cuof that for two squash or 4 halves.
00:51:06Mm-hmm.
00:51:07And a handful of parmigiano regiano.
00:51:13>> And I use yellow cheddar because of the squash.
00:51:20I mash it together and re-stuff the boats.
00:51:22Once you get the boats filled take more, a little extra sprinkle of the cheddar and parm, and put it across the top so it's nice and brown and bubbly.
00:51:32>> It comes out of the oven, i garnish with chopped, fresh scallion orb chives.
00:51:38-- Or chives and reserved bits of bacon.

00:54:37With or without bake own, it's -- bacon, it's adaptable for the vegetarians, leave out the bacon.
00:54:45I chopped up the whites and the greens to garnish the stuffed butter nut squash and chive and left over bits of bacon.

00:56:59[ Applause ] >> so, we have the fresh ricotta cheese, parmigiano regiano, cheddar, fresh herbs (i like sage and thyme in this) the salt, pepper, nut meg, and olive oil, and push it back into the shell, you have beautiful individual portions, garnish with scallions and if you use bacon, a few more bacon bits up on top.
