00:00:01America.
00:00:01That has prompted response from cair.
00:00:03Joining us from washington corely saylor the government director for cair.
00:00:07What would your objection be to these kinds of hearings?
00:00:10>> Good evening, bill.
00:00:11Thanks for having me on.
00:00:13Well, the concern is really not with the hearings so much but with representative king himself.
00:00:18He has said that there are too many mosques in america.
00:00:21He has said that 85% of the american muslim leadership is an enemy living amongst us.
00:00:27And then he said repeatedly that the american muslim community does not cooperate with law enforcement.
00:00:32And just as an example of how patently false these statements are fbi director muriel in 2008 and 2009 has praise the amerin muslim community for our cooperation with law enforcement.
00:00:46>> Bill: Your beef is personally can w. king.
00:00:48You think he is anti-muslim.
00:00:50>> I don't want to say personally with king but definitely with those positions he has adopted.
00:00:54We think they reflect badly on him.
00:00:57>> Bill: A bunch of people on the committee.
00:00:59They are going to have these hearings on, you know, muslim extremism inside america.
00:01:04The reason they are going to have them is because there have been 24 incidents in the last two years involving muslims who were trying to do some kind of violence according to the authorities.
00:01:14Now, only one happened, that was hasan the major down in texas killing those people.
00:01:2124 Incidents, that's troubling, is it not?
00:01:23>> Well, I think that representative king is going to hold hearings that represent him view.
00:01:28He is not going to bring witnesses before his committee that are going to contradict him.
00:01:33That's not what he wants.
00:01:33I think a better conversation to have is how is law enforcement and the american muslim community working together to protect and secure our nation?
00:01:42And, you know, our colleagues very muslim public affairs council have shown that in four out of the last 10 al qaeda-led attempts against our country the american muslim community was there to prevent it the council on american international relations I can think of two instances off the top of my head in which we reported persons of concern to the fbi.
00:02:04Fortunately, in one of those cases, the person we reported as a person of concern turned out to be an fbi informant.
00:02:11>> Bill: You don't believe that will be heard in the committee hearings?
00:02:15You wanted to go in and retestify, I'm sure congressman king would take you.
00:02:19Look, I have a pew study in my hand.
00:02:21>> Sure.
00:02:22>> Bill: This is an interesting study.
00:02:2478% Of american muslims say suicide bombings are never justified.
00:02:31But 22% either say it's justified or won't answer.
00:02:34That's a will the.
00:02:35That's a lot.
00:02:36And the other thing is that only 68% of american muslims have a negative view of al qaeda.
00:02:45So, if I'm sitting there in the government and these stats are rolling in, I'm saying there is a minority among the american muslim community that holds views that are pretty radical.
00:02:57Why shouldn't I find out more about them?
00:03:00>> Well, in my experience, bill, you can get about 15% of people in this country to support just about anything.
00:03:07I think the really important thing to look at here is is there support within the american muslim community for al qaeda?
00:03:14And my answer to that is no, there is not.
00:03:20-- >> Bill: There is enough support that to make it -- not an overwhelming problem but, look, if I am -- if I am the top law enforcement guy in the country and I see 24 incidents of muslim attempted violence in the united states over the past 24 months, that's one incident per month, that's troubling.
00:03:45That is troubling.
00:03:47Now, it might -- I'm not saying that it might be coming from outside.
00:03:51It might be coming from yemen.
00:03:54I think you have got to get a handle on it therefore I support these hearings.
00:03:58I will give you the last word.
00:03:59>> Sure.
00:04:00Let's finish up on talking al qaeda.
00:04:02The counter terrorism center on west point came out with a report in which they demonstrated that al qaeda has done one thing very well since 9/11 and that's kill muslims.
00:04:13I think what we need to be emphasizing is the alliance between american muslims, law enforcement, muslims worldwide against al qaeda as opposed to trying to put the lens on the very small minority who support these acts that do not find friendly support within the american muslim community.
00:04:35>> Bill: I disagree with you.
00:04:36It's the very small minority that killed 3,000 people on one day.
00:04:41And if you are not going to deal with those people, you are not going to put the lens as you put it on those people, you are opening yourself up to serious, serious problems.
00:04:51Last word real quick.
00:04:52>> What I'm saying bill is the lens is there.
00:04:57They are -- they are willing to work with law enforcement to make sure there are no attacks on this country.
00:05:04>> Bill: I hope that's the case.
00:05:05If you want to testify in front of that committee, let us know.
00:05:07>> I'm looking forward to the invitation.
00:05:10>> Bill: Absolutely.
00:05:11I would think congressman king would like to know what you think.
00:05:14Thanks very much.
00:05:16Bernie goldberg on the mainstream media branding president obama the come back kid.
00:05:21Reality check did controversial npr producer nina totenburg insult christmas?
00:05:28We can play I'd like one of those dessertsand some coffee.

00:08:11I'm bill o'reilly.
00:08:11In weekdays with bernie segment two hot topics beginning with the mainstream media echoing this theme.
00:08:20>> Charles krauthammer called president obama this week the new comeback kid and he said republicans are underestimating him.
00:08:26>> Conservative columnist charles krauthammer hasn't had much good to say about president obama.
00:08:29Now written two columns the last of which praises him as the comeback kid.
00:08:33>> Pretty good week for a guy who got she lacked a little over a month ago.
00:08:37One conservative columnist obama mat new comeback kid.
00:08:41>> Bill: All right.
00:08:42Amazing how similar they sound.
00:08:46Joining us from miami -- that was bernie goldberg.
00:08:48This is a rebranding of the president, correct?
00:08:51>> Yeah.
00:08:52It's a rebranding as you noted that started with the conservative, charles krauthammer.
00:08:58The second point is, that after the november that barack obama had with the she lacking he took in the midterm elections, i mean, anything short of getting hit by a truck would be considered being a come back kid.
00:09:12Whether he really is or not, let's wait and see there is a long way between december 2010 and november 2012.
00:09:21So, you know, way too early to tell that.
00:09:24>> Bill: Radio commentary today take at least a year for you to be able to brand the president comeback kid because you would have to see if the tax compromise stimulates the economy and the unemployment rate goes down.
00:09:37>> The media angle.
00:09:40>> Bill: Right.
00:09:40>> The media angle though is that a lot of journalists are light birds on a telephone wire.
00:09:44You know how you see one bird and then a second lady you see see -- later you see 100 birds.
00:09:53Media version of that is one journalist says something clever and then 10 seconds later you have 500 journalists saying the exact same thing.
00:10:00I mean, that's the degree -- >> Bill: I believe the mainstream media, which has a lot of emotion invested in barack obama, they want him to be the come back kid so why not call him the come back kid?
00:10:11>> That's the point.
00:10:12That's the point.
00:10:13That's exactly the point.
00:10:15The reason so many liberal journalists are repeating what krauthammer said to get your-to-your branding question because then they can say you see?
00:10:28A conservative said he is the come back kid.
00:10:30>> Bill: He is the come back kid.
00:10:32Correct.
00:10:33>> That's the rebranding that they want.
00:10:35By the way when charles krauthammer says something negative about barack obama, no matter how clever, no matter how catchy, that doesn't catch fire the way that this expression did.
00:10:46>> Bill: It's an interesting -- we have seen it you and me for years that they co-opt a certain thing they want the american people to believe.
00:10:57>> Exactly.
00:11:00That's that's how bias really works.
00:11:03It isn't some journalist goes on television or in a newspaper and says something blatant.
00:11:07They take in what they want and then they lay it off on somebody else.
00:11:11>> Bill: Okay.
00:11:12Now last week we talked about goldberg's infatuation with wealthy people.
00:11:17And how they, you know, should be praised, not scorned.
00:11:22Then you received a lot of mail.
00:11:23>> Right.
00:11:25>> Bill: Tell us about that?
00:11:26>> Well, a lot of it was positive.
00:11:28And the most heart warming of it came from people who said I'm not rich, I work hard.
00:11:32I have a family.
00:11:33But I don't begrudge the rich anything and they realize that think of america without rich people.
00:11:39So that was really touching.
00:11:41Then there were angry, really angry people.
00:11:45I just -- I will give you a couple.
00:11:47One was from somebody named mary ann.
00:11:51By the way, I didn't say one negative word about poor people or middle class people.
00:11:55Not one negative word.
00:11:56All I said was that rich people deserve our gratitude for all they do.
00:12:01So mary ann says you actually made me physically ill.
00:12:06You are the worst of the worst.
00:12:11Eric said this is one of the most disgusting articles I have ever read in my life.
00:12:17And then there was george who was pithy, bill.
00:12:20He just said f-you.
00:12:23That was the entire email and he didn't say f if you know what i mean.
00:12:28The angriest emails came from religious christians who said, what I said to you on the air and you brought up the religious thing and I answered your question about eye of a camel and the rich person getting into the kingdom of heaven.
00:12:48Listen, I think you and brit hume made a lot of sense tonight.
00:12:51I think reasonable people may disagree on whether jesus would be a liberal or a conservative.
00:12:56But the most by I can't say of your pias of your viewers don't think that reasonable people would disagree.
00:13:05They think if you don't agree that jesus would be a tea partier as some of them actually told me.
00:13:09I mean, they really said that then you are the devil incarnate.
00:13:15>> Bill: I think if you study and the only historical basis we can, you know, analyze the is that jesus was totally a-political.
00:13:23He didn't take a political bent.
00:13:25Everything came back to how you treat your fellow man and how you treat the god who created you.
00:13:30That was all.
00:13:32And so under the lesson -- >> let me ask you this.
00:13:36Let me ask you this along those lines.
00:13:38A modern day politician, somebody in congress, for example, gets up on the floor of the congress and says, you know, it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
00:13:52All I'm asking is this, is it more likely that those words would be likely uttered by a liberal democrat or a conservative republican?
00:14:00That's all I'm saying.
00:14:01>> Bill: It would be a liberal democrat.
00:14:03>> Of course.
00:14:03>> Bill: It didn't have really anything to do with about how money is handled.
00:14:07It had to do with who is your god.
00:14:11Is it money?
00:14:11Or is it god?
00:14:13I mean that is always the theme throughout.
00:14:16>> And all I'm saying, bill is, that reasonable people.
00:14:21>> Bill: I'm going to get a flood of mail and it's going to be all over the place.
00:14:24>> They are all going to agree with you.
00:14:26>> Bill: Oh no.
00:14:27>> Trust me, they are going to agree with you.
00:14:29No I guarantee you.
00:14:30I will read that mail tomorrow.
00:14:32I guarantee they won't.
00:14:34But mcdermott is using jesus.
00:14:37Jim mcdermott, the congressman, is he using him for a political reason.
00:14:40No doubt in my mind.
00:14:41>> He was in my book "100 people " that was years ago I wrote that.
00:14:47>> Bill: Still to come, as the factor continues, joy behar puts me in her holiday card.
00:14:52Oh, man.

00:18:08You know, we talk a lot about we just passed this huge tax cut in part because business said we have to plan, we have to know what kind of tax cuts we have.

00:18:22And -- forgive the expression, ta a christmas party at the department of justice.

00:18:36I read it as a flippant remark.
